ROME

(ROMA)

In Roman mythology, Rome was founded by twin brothers Romulus and Remus.Ê They were born to a vestal virgin named Rea Silvia, who was raped by Mars (Ares in Greek, the god of war) and had the twins.Ê After birth the twins were placed in a basket and cast upon the Tiber, they floated ashore and were nursed by a she-wolf. A shepherd found the twins, named them and brought them up.Ê When grown, the twins restored Numitor to his throne and founded Rome (753 BC). An omen indicated that Romulus was the true founder of the city, and Romulus killed Remus on the Palatine Hill. He then became the first of Rome's seven kings, reigning from 753 to 716 BC.

Rome is the capital city of Italy and close to Rome is another city called the Vatican City. It is in fact, its own city (Vatican City) completely surrounded by the city of Rome.SAINT PETER'S BASILICA is the largest and principal church of the Roman Catholic world. Ê
