Before getting into this I feel I have to put in a disclaimer...The tone of this article strikes me as off...I want to mention that I don't view the reverse racism issue as more important or more heinous than any other kind, but more to the point I am saying that if we are to have a truely equal society, terms like reverse racism should be done away with and called racism plain and simple. That's all. So read on and enjoy.
Okay here's a sore spot for everybody. Nobody likes racism, except of course for racists but that goes without saying. In particular, however, I find this 'reverse racism' detestible. Now gut reaction to that will probably be something akin to "you only say that because it applies to you, you whinning cracker" but I assure you that this is not what makes my bile rise. For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, reverse racism is simply when some one is racist against a white person. I find this whole line of reasoning very insulting to everyone involved and in itself very racist. Let me tell you why...
Saying that racism against white people,as unhip as we all are, is racist for two main reasons: A.)discriminating against a group of people based soley on the color of their skin. End of story. There isn't a clause that says 'unless your skin color is white' so what in tha name of all that is holy is this reverse crap all about? Where is the reverse stuff about? Discrimination is discrimination regardless of who it is agianst.B.) there is the implication that white people ar the only ones who are racsist, thus the term reverse racism. This really pisses me off.
To quote Dennis Miller, who is afterall a god, "I'm a white middle class male. I'm everybody's favorite asshole." I am tired of getting blamed for everything. I know that the whinning of a decently privilaged white guy is generally considered pretty pathetic and a desperate attempt to glean sympathy for feckless complaints. Well therein lies the problem. See there are quite a few things I haven't had to deal with because of the color of my skin but at the same time I've encountered some racially motivated problems in my life.
First of all I am tiered of the fingure pointing that goes on. I don't need to be blamed for what my ancestors did. I have never owned a slave, I have never killed and raped for someone's land(well I've never killed or raped period, but you get my meaning), I've never asked anyone to sit at the back of the bus, I've never burned any crosses or run any concentration camps(i am half german)or anything else like that. So why the FUCK do I get blamed for it all? It makes me angry.
Next is the notion that I can't get scholarships to save my life. I am lucky enough to have parents who are willing to pick up the bill for school but I know a lot of people who don't and can't afford school. It is so bad that I have to fill out the 'other' category on most financial forms and apptitude tests. Can't they at least give us a cuacasian bubble? Would that be so bloody hard? I have 'OTHER?'
Now I am not saying that white guys have had it as bad as most other special intrest groups, quite the contrary but at the same time that disparity doesn't mean that any discrimination against me is automatically void and acceptable. I have never been a racist I have never felt superior to anyone because of their ethnicity. So I don't feel it is right to make a sweeping statement about my race because of something that our ancestors did generations ago. It is true that if history is forgotten it will repeat itself, but that doesn't mean that the hatred and negative feelings must be remembered because then truely they will be repeated. I take people as they come and wheter or not I like them is bsed soley on their character, not on their skin, their sexual oreientation or their religion. I would really like the same in return and not be seen as a bastard who would like nothing more than to string them up after making them work in a pea farm and call them that lovely word that rhymes with 'chigger.' I want to close with an account of the first time I ever saw a black person. My mom and I were at a gas station and the place was being filled by a black truck driver. my mom, curious to see my reation to someone of a different color asked me what that guy was. My answer was simple, 'He's a truck driver.'
as per usual if you want to write then by all means do so!
