The Rose

The Rose

Some say love it is the river
      that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love it is the razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love it is a hunger
       an aching endless need.
I say love it is a flower
      and you, it's only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
    that never learns to Dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
    that never takes a chance.
It's the one who wont be taken
     who cannot seem to give,
and the soul afraid of dying
     that never learns to live.

When the night has been to lonely
and the road has been too long,
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the winter
      far beneath the bitter snows
                lies the seed
that with the sun's love in the spring
               becomes the Rose

God Said.........No

I asked God to take away my pride.
God said.... "No".
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said.... "No".
Her spirit was whole, her body was only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said.... "No".
Patience is a by-product of tribulations; it isn't granted, it is earned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said.... "No".
I give you blessings, happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said.... "No".
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said.... "No".
You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said.... "No".
I will give you life so that you may enjoy all things.

I ask God to help me LOVE others, as much as he loves me.
God said...
Ahhhh..........finally you have the idea!

MY PRAYER

When my life has reached its very end,
And I take that final breath
I want to know I've left behind
Some "good" before my death.

I hope that in my final hour
In all honesty I can say
That somewhere in my lifetime,
I have brightened someone's day.

That maybe I have brought a smile
To someone else's face...
And made one moment a little sweeter
While they dwelled here in this place.

Lord, please be my reminder
And whisper softly in my ear,
Be a "giver", not a "taker",
In the years I have left here.

Give to me the strength I need
Open up my mind, my soul,
That I might show sincere compassion
And love to others before I go.

For if not a heart be touched by me,
And not a smile was left behind,
Then the life that I am blessed with
Will have been a waste of time.

With all my heart, I truly hope
To leave something here on earth...
That touched another, made them smile
And gave to my life, worth.

Always There

It seems that in my darkest times
My friend I find you there.
Willing to lend a helping hand
To show how much you care.

Whenever I am lonely
Or the world becomes too much,
You quietly chase all tears away
With friendship's subtle touch.

You know just when I need you
And what to say and do.
I find that I am surely blessed
To have a friend like you.

So, for all the time you give me
And the love you have to share
I want to thank you from my heart
For always being there.

When I whine...

Today, upon a bus, I saw a girl with golden hair
I looked at her and sighed and wished I was as fair.
When suddenly she rose to leave, I saw her hobble down the aisle.
She had one leg and used a crutch
But as she passed, she passed a smile.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine
I have 2 legs, the world is mine.

I stopped to buy some candy
The lad who sold it had such charm
I talked with him a while, he seemed so very glad
If I were late, it'd do no harm.
And as I left, he said to me,
"I thank you, you've been so kind.
It's nice to talk with folks like you.
You see," he said, "I'm blind."
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have 2 eyes, the world is mine.

Later while walking down the street,
I saw a child with eyes of blue
He stood and watched the others play
He did not know what to do.
I stopped a moment and then I said,
"Why don't you join the others, dear?"
He looked ahead without a word.
And then I knew, he couldn't hear.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have 2 ears, the world is mine.

With feet to take me where I'd go.
With eyes to see the sunset's glow.
With ears to hear what I would know.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I've been blessed indeed, The world is mine.

Rules for Being Human

1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, abuse it or nourish it, but it is yours with a lifetime guarantee.
2. You will learn lessons. You are automatically enrolled in a full-time school called "life". Each day you will have the opportunity to learn. You may enjoy the lessons or perhaps think them irrelevant and stupid, or you may just learn a part of what is offered. The choices are yours.
3. Lessons are repeated until learned. The same lesson takes many forms, but when you have learned it, you can go on to other lessons.
4. There are NO mistakes, only lessons. Growth can result from trial and error, experimentation, awareness and acceptance. The "failed" experiments are as much "process" as what "works".
5. Learning never ends. No part of life is without lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned, challenges to be met, contributions to be made.
6. "There" is not better than "here." When your "there" has become "here", you simply get a new "there" that will look better than "here". (This is one of life's hardest lessons.) But, "here" and "now" are best to work with.
7. Others are mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something within another person unless it reflects something you love or hate in yourself.
8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you will ever need. What you do with them is your choice. We are constantly becoming "ourselves" and it is not easy.
9. Answers lie within. The answers to life's questions exist inside you. All you need do is look, listen, trust and believe. Answers will come in droves -- like magic, but you are expected to use the answers.
10. Life is imminent. We must choose the best in life . . . and be that.
11. Laughter and love enhance life's experience.
12. Life gives us personal challenges and pathways to achieve greatness. To be fully Human -- we must meet those challenges! Who said it’s easy being this thing called 'Human'.
