Do You Spend Enough Time on Your Homework?

by Leora R.

1. You come home from school, and your favorite TV show is on. Do you:

A. Watch the show and all the others after it.

B. Do your homework and tape the show.

C. Do your homework while watching the show.

2. You are going to miss 2 days of school to go to your cousins' wedding. Do you:

A. "Forget" to get the make-up work you need to pass.

B. Collect all the assignments that will be needed that week.

C. Collect all the written assignments and do them the night before you go back to school.

3. How much time do you spend on your homework each night?

A. 0-45 minutes

B. as long as it takes

C. 45-60 minutes

4. Do you think you are a good student?

A. Not really

B. Yes

C. Sort-of

Key:

If you chose mostly A's:

You are not the ideal student. It would be a guaranteed that you don't get straight A's and B's. If you would spend more time on your homework and would focus, you would improve.

If you chose mostly B's:

You are close to a perfect student. You make-up your work and care enough about school to go the extra nine yards. If you don't get good grades and find yourself looking at this, then maybe you should try to improve your grades.

If you chose mostly C's:

You are an average student who most likely gets at least a "C" average. It would be better to read the "B" responses and try to improve your grades. Whether it be 15 more minutes on homework a night or studying harder, it might give your grade a big boost. You'd be surprised. It may not be as hard as you think.

Are Your Parents Over-Protective?

by Leora R. & Worth B.

1. You and all your friends get invited to a sleep over party, hosted by a classmate you hardly know. Most of your friends get to go. Your parents say:

A. Yes, but only after calling the student's parents.

B. Absolutely not. Not a chance.

C.. Of course they will. They let you do anything you want (pretty much).

2. Your parents leave you alone in the house. Do they:

A. Give you a speech about how they "trust" that you won't budge from your lazy position on the couch or the alarm system will go off.

B. Leave without any warning.

C. Tell you to warm up the lasagna that's in the fridge and give you the emergency phone number.

3. There's a camp run by 18 year olds. A lot of your friends get to go. Your parents say:

A. Let me meet them first and then I'll decide.

B. No.

C. Yes

4. There's a Puff Daddy concert playing tomorrow night at the Amphitheater. You won 2 concert tickets from Q94. Your parents say:

A. You can go, but only if you take one of your parents.

B. Your parents are talking to each other, and when you ask, they yell at you saying that whatever you want to ask the answer is yes.

C. Your parents say no, but there is a Sesame Street Concert and they got you and your older brother tickets.

5. You're going out on a date with the hottest girl/guy from school. You are getting ready to leave and your parents:

A. Spaz out

B. Tell you to have a good time.

C. Ignore you.

Key:

1. a(1) b(3)c(2)

2. a(3)b(2)c(1)

3. a(1)b(3)c(2)

4. a(1)b(2)c(3)

5. a(3)b(1)c(2)

Your parents are surprisingly normal. Whether you think that your parents are weird is another story and another quiz. They are cool with a lot of what you do and meet you halfway if not further.

9-12 points

Your parents are somewhat neglectful. I know a lot of people who would want parents who would let them get away with anything, you, on the other hand, probably don't feel so lucky to have them. You should sit down and have a talk and see what may be causing this. It may just be temporary. Try to get your family together to do more things, and they might shape up. For instance, suggest a family picnic, or go ice skating or tubing together, its very relaxing and bonding at the same time.

13-15 points

Your parents are overprotective. There is almost no doubt in my mind. You should try to get them to relax and maybe they'll lighten up. If that doesn't work, try to make a deal. Example: Your bedtime is at 10:00. You think that it is too early. Your parents don't think you're responsible enough to be given that privilege. Cut them a deal. You go to bed at 10:30 tonight, if you wake up on time, and aren't grumpy you can stay up to 11:00 the next night. If you handle that, you get to stay up that late until you flub up. When you do, you go back to 10:00 for one night. Then you start all over.
