       TMS Pets

by Sarah Lynch- Kelly
I wish that all pictures for the paper could be printed, but I am glad so many people sent their precious pet’s picture.  You, the students, sent in a lot of pictures. My friend and I  looked them all over; and though it was difficult to narrow down the choices, we came to a conclusion.   Other pictures were as follows:

Patch and Zip- Ashley H.’s cat and hamster
Gracy- Lindsay H.’s  orange and white cat
Buddy- Ryan T.’s white horse with silver-brown spots
Smoky- Ms.Cole’s cute  gray and white dog.
Bo- Paige W.’s black lab
Melvin A.’s rotweiler
Oliver-Megan G.’s smoky gray cat
Perkins- Cameron N.’s black, brown and gray cat
Jake- Evan L.’s-black cat

Bringing Holiday Cheer to People ‘Round Here

by Dave I.

What is the Christmas Mother Fund?  What does Christmas Mother do?  What is the history of the Christmas Mother?  Where do contributions to the Christmas Mother go?  How did TMS do last year?  How did TMS do this year?  If any of you found yourself asking these questions as you donated your spare change to the Christmas Mother and didn’t have time to ask Mrs. White or Mrs. Farleigh yourself, then you’re in luck.  I talked to Mrs. White to find out the answers to these questions that have been preying on my mind.
The Christmas Mother is a fund that provides toys and food for families in need over the holidays.  Your generous contributions go to the Christmas Mother fund, which is sponsored by Henrico County.  Among the needy people who receive gifts from the Christmas Mother are children who are under the age of 16, adults and children who have special needs, elderly people who have been forgotten, children in Henrico who have been placed under foster care, and people who have emergency family or personal needs.  The Christmas Mother began in 1942.  Mrs. George Nelson, who was a teacher in Henrico County, got the inspiration for this fund from the efforts on the home front during World War II.  Since then, a new Christmas Mother is appointed each year to  distribute holiday gifts to over 4,000 people around the county.  Last year, TMS brought in about $3,100.  Our grand total this year was $4,114.24, exceeding our goal of $2,500 by $1, 614.24 (64.6% higher).  Mrs. White would like to say this to the students and faculty of TMS: “The SCA students have worked really hard to get their homerooms to raise money, and we appreciate all the hard work that everyone has put in.”
