My Voice
by Brawner Alcorn Hello. My name is Brawner Alcorn. I am in the eighth grade and I am the editor-in-chief of The Voice of the Patriots. My role as editor-in-chief is to make sure things get done, to meet with the editors of the different departments to make decisions, to meet with the publisher (Mr. Astrove) to make more individual decisions, and also to give Mr. Astrove a break. I work on the newspaper staff because IÕve thought it was a really cool idea since sixth grade. IÕve wanted to contribute to the newspaper for the past two years, and now I finally have my chance. Being on the newspaper staff is a lot of fun. I would definitely suggest that seventh graders think about it for next year. Anyway, working on the newspaper staff is hectic because of the deadlines, but it is worth the stress. We started planning the newspaper by deciding what we would keep from last year, and what new departments we would add to the paper. We then decided who would do what, including the position of editor-in-chief. Everyone then began to write their articles and everything started to fit together. My goal for The Voice of the Patriots is to make it better than ever with new departments, more reviews, and more things the readers of the paper can relate to. I also want to make the newspaper enjoyable for as many people as possible, and more interesting with stories and articles about what you want to read. This yearÕs newspaper staff is very hard-working, and everyone is great. You should be expecting a great newspaper this year! |
Vegan at TMSby Jared Baker What is Ō VeganismÕ? Veganism is when a person chooses not to eat or wear anything that comes from an animal. Rarely would you see a Vegan at the early age of fourteen. Luckily, we have a Vegan student at our very own Tuckahoe Middle School. He is Stephen Guedri, an eighth-grade student. I interviewed him and found out some things about being a Vegan and how it is part of his every-day life. Stephen has been a Vegan for six months, but he was a vegetarian for three years before becoming a Vegan. He believes that harming animals for food and goods is a crime. His brother, Michael Guedri, is one of his biggest influences in becoming a Vegan. He decided that animal products were what he wanted to give up for Lent. He has to eat other foods to get the proteins and vitamins he misses for not eating animal products. Some of these foods as soy hamburgers, soy milk, and many organic foods. Since he canÕt wear leather he is forced to wear synthetic leather and canvas. He closed the interview by saying, ŅBeing Vegan is just part of my life.Ó |
