Camille's work and career
|
I started at what was then the College of Arts, Science and Technology
(and is now known as the University of Technology Jamaica) in October 1988
- just after Hurricane Gilbert ravished our
little rock (
Jamaica). I pursued the two year course in Computer Studies until July 1990.
|
  |
After leaving college I was immediately hired on August 1st 1990 by
Management Control Systems. I started my programming career there by coding in
COBOL and FoxBase until February 1992.
Among the different types of systems I worked on while at
MCSystems were payroll systems and a General Ledger system.
|
  |
After a short break, I applied to and was hired by the
Jamaica National Building Society
where I spent approximately two (2) years working on an online banking system named
iBank:R. I gained some exposure to
Informix-SQL while I was at
JNBS when I was sent to
Greenville, South Carolina
to study a new version of the product and to assist in the writing of conversion scripts.
|
  |
From JNBS, I went to work on a World Bank funded project as a consultant,
developing an application called FMIS - Financial Management Information System,
to automate and organize internal government accounting. The platform for this
project is Informix-4GL on SCO-UNIX
and it was there that I gained most of the foundation experience in Informix-4GL.
|
  |
After 15 months, I moved on to Systems Alliance Limited,
a Grace Kennedy and Company subsidiary, where I honed my Informix-4GL skills.
I was involved in coding special request programmes intended to be
a part of the suite of programmes making up TIPS2000, a payroll application.
After about 5 weeks, SAL sent me to assist in Informix-4GL coding at
Fiscal Services (EDP) Limited.
|
  |
After almost 2 years with SAL, I am now currently employed to FSL
as a Database Administrator.
|
  |
I've also been an active member of the
The Jamaica Computer Society
for over 3 years now - serving in my own small way on both the Membership
and Conference Committees.
