Bars work as described in the FrontPage help, but only Text mode is supported at
GeoCities.
The
file graph0.css (graph1.css for vivd colors) contains the font colors that FrontPage uses
when creating buttons for Themes.
Hover
Buttons will work if you do the following:
Copy the "_fpclass/*.class" files into your main directory, and upload them to your GeoCities address. You may already have done this if you followed my HiJack page instructions.
After adding Hover Buttons, you must switch to the HTML tab in the FrontPage editor. Then in the HTML for the Hover Buttons, change:
codebase="_fpclass/"
to:
codebase="./"
This will cause the Java Class files to be loaded from your main directory, instead of the _fpclass sub-directory.
Note: That was a 'period' and a 'slash', in case you find the above hard to read.
Sample Hover Button:
Note: There have been problems with Hover Buttons that do not display images or colors properly. Check the Microsoft FrontPage online support if you are having problems. Also, when I Preview my pages using MS Internet Explorer, if I am browsing them as files (Disk Web), instead of through the Personal Web Server, the applet doesn't load.
To
make an Image Button
Note: I have an alternative
procedure to make buttons using the image
toolbar.
Using your Theme Pallette, pick one of the blank button imagess (there are smalll buttons and large buttons).
Open the blank button image in the MS Image Composer
Using the Image Composer put your text on the button, and align it.
Save the button Image under a New Name as a GIF file
Open your page in the FrontPage Editor, then position your cursor where you want the button.
On the Insert Menu, select the Image sub-menu item. The image dialog opens, select your new image button from the list. Then press OK.
Click your right mouse button on the image, on the pop-up menu select the Image Properties item, and the Image Properties dialog will open.
In the Image Properties dialog, fill in
The Alternative Text for the button
The Hyperlink Location for the button
Switch to the Appearance Tab, and set the Border Thickness to 0, for no border. And check the Size check box (the size of the image should be already filled in).
Press OK to close the Image Properties dialog
To
make a Horizonal Button Bar
In the FrontPage Editor, position your cursor where you want the button bar.
On the Table Menu, select the Insert Table sub-menu item. The Insert Table dialog will open.
In the Insert Table dialog fill in:
Rows to 1
Columns to the number of buttons you have
Alignment, set to Left, Center, or Right, depending how you want the button bar aligned on the page.
Set Border Size, Cell Padding, and Cell Spacing to 0
Press Ok to close the dialog, and you will get a table on your page like this.
Insert a button into each cell (hover or image) like this.
And your button bar is complete
To
make a Vertical Button Bar, you have to layout your page using tables. There are many ways
you can layout a page using tables, and if you create a new page in the FrontPage Editor,
there are several templates for page layouts you can use. For this example I use the
simplest page layout.
Create a blank page.
Insert a 1 row 2 cell table on the page, aligned to the left.
buttons page content
Set the cell properties for the first cell as follows:
Horizontal Alignment = Center
Vertical Alignment = Top
Width in Pixels = the width of you buttons + margin space (20)
buttons page content
Set the cell properties for the second cell as follows:
Horizontal Alignment = Left
Vertical Alignment = Top
buttons page content
Insert your first button into the first cell. Then press either the Enter Key (new paragraph, single space), or Shift-Enter (line break, no space), to go to the next line. Then insert your next butt5on, and continue like this until all your buttons are added.
You can than add the content for your page in the second cell.
