Mike and Sharon's San Antonio Scene

Hi we're Mike (Bonkie) & Sharon (Elane)
We hope you enjoy this site about San Antonio. We will update it often.

My real name is Michael. I got the nickname Bonkie when my godson Brandon G. Rogers first tried to say Mikey. The best he could do is Bonkie--and it just stuck. Sharon is my wife and we live in San Antonio, Texas. We are in our fourties to fiftys and have two grown children and no grandchildren. Hold on there. We now have grandchildren!!! Pictures to follow soon. San Antonio is home to the Alamo, The Cradle of Texas Liberty. We are also famous for our Riverwalk, known world wide for its beauty. In late winter the city drains the river for an annual clean up and inspection. Since we have no river during that time, we hold a mud festival. Candidates for Mud King and Queen solicit votes at a nickle a vote. Fortunately no one gets arrested for buying an elected official. In a city known for its ability to party, Fiesta, held in April, stands alone as the mother of all celebrations. Fiesta is a term that describes many events. NIOSA (knee-O-sa) or Night in Old San Antonio is held in the historic downtown section of the city. All our many diverse cultures are represented here and at events held nearby. Each with its own ethnic food and entertainment. This year the events take place from April 17 thru the 26th. Check these pictures out. Absolute proof that you can fit 30,000 people into an area the size of 1.5 city blocks! And do it four nights in a row. Many people unfamilar with Texas and its history do not realize that Fiesta is a celebration of our independence from Mexico. The events of 1836 that led to our independence are the greatest story in Texas history. T.R. Fehrenbach's book Lone Star has no equal in telling the tale. Our present Governor is Rick Perry. With the help of Jeb Bush (Governor of Chadonia) we fired our old Governor George W. Shrub. He is now your President. As President he just might grow into a Bush. Please don't ask President Shrub about his funding program for the Texas Prison System when he was Governor. It's like a real sore subject with him since 7 cons walked out of a Maxium Security Prison in South Texas and killed a north Texas Police Officer. He gets a tad touchy bout that subject.
If you like crafting you will enjoy the site Josie has built. We have many of her hand crafted items in our home, and people always ask us where we got them. Check out her new gourd collection. She can paint any thing you want on them. It's hard to decide which items to purchase, but here are three our our favorites. There are many more on her web page. Mikey likes it! If you like fishing, well then you'll love these pictures of Don's big bass taken at the Zachry ranch in south Texas. And he threw this 8+ bad boy back! Also released was a 6 pounder, and many 3 to 5 pounders. Oh my! Thats why the bass go up to 13+ at this ranch! Here are some pictures from our most recent trip to the Zachry ranch. Sharon did quite well for a first time "wormer."
Maybe you like to fish in salt water, Sharon and I just got back from a trip with guide Dwayne Clark of Aransas Pass, Texas. This was a trip that started out through a small rain storm, traveled under 4 Rainbows and wound up at Trout Heaven!!! This is our third trip with Dwayne in his 23 foot Kenner boat. You can't go wrong with this guide. Summer in south central Texas is hot! However you can grow spectacular flowering displays if the right varities are chosen. Check out these varities. They work.

The Bonkie and Elane banner at the top of the page is from Modem Mom! Check out her home page. It is one of the best sites you can bookmark!
