George and Annie, in 1983.
This was taken in front of their home in Cedarbrook, New Jersey. When I went in the Navy, they decided it was time to build the home they had always wanted, and found a great lot next to the Wharton Tract, a natural preserve in the South Jersey Pinelands. Annie called the place "Ländhaus", a German word that simply means 'country home', and they put a lot of effort into making the home uniquely theirs. This home was filled with memories of Christmas's, birthdays, family and friends visiting, with Annie the consummate Hostess, and George a genial Host. Whether it was a barbeque or a formal dinner, everyone looked forward to a pleasant time at Ländhaus. It's the home that Steve and Katie remember as "Oma and Opas' house", and that I remember as the place that my parents vowed would be the last move they would ever make. And so it was.
