"To the Memory of the Fallen"
When a game ends, the big question is, who won? While it is often clear who lost (their name usually rhymes with "Death"), it is often quite unclear who won. At least, it's often hard to tell who won the BIGGEST. Well, as the game's designer, a former moderator of SW2, the future moderator of SW4, and the maintainer of this webpage, I think I may be qualified to hand out such honors and acclamations. All these awards have been discussed with several other players, including the moderators of each game. Each game has several awards, some positive, and some negative. The positive awards include, usually, Winners, Runners-up, Honorable Mentions, and the "Doing the Most with the Least" award, which goes to the player who did the most with a weak starting position. There is also sometimes a "Short Timer" award for players who did well, but who had to quit the game early on for reasons beyond their control. Special awards include awards for humor and the "Prozac" award, which serves as a sort of "Most Improved" award. Negative awards include the "Big Loser Award" and the "Doing the Least with the Most" award, which goes to the player who did the least with a very powerful position. Also, there is an occasional "Shooting Yourself in the Foot" award given to players who do manage to destroy themselves without outside help, or even a good reason for doing so.
NOTE: No formal awards were given out to the players of the first game, "The Spectrum Wars I: The Beginning". This is because I doubt anyone remembers enough of what went on (or understands ANY of what went on) to give out any awards now. Besides, that game ended with absolutely NO clear winners or losers, and the lack of clear rules or defined units or economies makes it hard to judge who increased their power the most.
Now, may I have the envelope please...
Well. That's the awards so far, and the new game is starting up. Who will win "The Spectrum Wars IV: A New Hope"? Keep an eye on this website to find out!
