Purpose of Stretching
- Increase and maintain Range
of Motion
- Decrease muscle soreness,
(light exercise promotes a better supply of blood and oxygen to
muscles).
- Stretched, flexible muscles
require less energy for movements.
- Lowers unnecessary
neuromuscular tension and decreases emotional stress.
- Improves general body
relaxation
- Helps prevent joint and
muscle strains &/or tears.
- Increases tissue
temperature, (warm up) through a sped up metabolic rate.
- Improves blood flow to
fatigued area, (cool down) and helps remove toxic waste build up which
will decrease muscle soreness.
- Helps prevent tightness that
may contribute to pain, spasm or cramping.
- Improves recovery during the
process of rehabilitation
