Purpose of Stretching

  • Increase and maintain Range of Motion
  • Decrease muscle soreness, (light exercise promotes a better supply of blood and oxygen to muscles).
  • Stretched, flexible muscles require less energy for movements.
  • Lowers unnecessary neuromuscular tension and decreases emotional stress.
  • Improves general body relaxation
  • Helps prevent joint and muscle strains &/or tears.
  • Increases tissue temperature, (warm up) through a sped up metabolic rate.
  • Improves blood flow to fatigued area, (cool down) and helps remove toxic waste build up which will decrease muscle soreness.
  • Helps prevent tightness that may contribute to pain, spasm or cramping.
  • Improves recovery during the process of rehabilitation
