New MIB Website Under Construction - 04/10/03

We here at MIB are designing a new and improved website at http://www.sunandshadows.com/mib. Thanks go out to Velax of the Elementals for helping to develop the look of the site, and for offering to host the site on Sun and Shadows in the first place. Parts of the site are still under construction, so some of the links won't work yet. In addition to http://www.sunandshadows.com/mib, you will still be able to reach us through our old web address at http://www.starsiegemeninblack.cjb.net, though I won't redirect the address to the new site until everything is completed.

You also may have noticed new MIB forums are up at Siegedom. This move was prompted by a) the development of the new MIB site, and b) the sheer volume of pop-up ads that have come to annoy all of us. Thanks go out to the owner and administrator of Siegedom, Kayosoni. Anyway, I have recently been archiving old MIB Editing & Scripting posts over at the new MIB Research & Development forums, so we shouldn't lose any really important threads. However, if there is any post in particular that you'd like me to archive, e-mail me about it at sentinal07@hotmail.com

In addition, MIB will also be unveiling 2 new map packs (which you can grab early on Siegedom's downloads if you wish):

MIB Map Pack v6.1 - which contains many updates to previous maps as well as 25 extra bonus maps which were previously unreleased up until this point. (all of the maps which we were planning on putting in pack #7, but didn't get enough maps to make a pack #7)

MIB Terrain Map Pack - which is a small collection of maps based on brand-new terrain. These are not your everyday terrain-based maps. They were carefully designed to be both visually stunning and interesting to play. Maps by Sentinal and Powio. BTW, if you look hard enough in the terrain-based maps from this pack, you might find some interesting easter eggs and terrain formations, some of which may be reminiscent of the good old Earthsiege 2 days.

Blind Assassins - 02/17/03

Several months ago, a small faction of MIB members formed a small tribe in Tribes 1, called the Blind Assassins. The tribe's website is located at http://www.blindassasssins.cjb.net and the group consists of myself (Sentinal), Raven, Powio, Max Damage, Dead Eye (my roommate), and Stormtrooper (who is getting Tribes 1 as we speak so his profile page isn't up yet). The Blind Assassins mainly play the Annihilation mod and specialize in sniping, infiltration, and covert operations. The website includes detailed profiles on each assassin, and clicking on the logo will let you download the |BA| skins. The website may take a little longer to load on slower connections, so be patient. And if anyone reading this has Tribes 1, then put feel free to put |BA| on your buddy list, and maybe we'll see you online sometime.

Sentinal Mod Released!!! - 07/22/02

The Sentinal Mod is a total conversion for Starsiege created by Com. Sentinal [M.I.B.], which adds 25 new weapons, 7 enhanced weapons, 3 new armors, several new components, specific vehicle enhancements, and tougher AI. The mod is 100% compatible with normal Starsiege, because you run it with the -sentmod command line (just like the mission editor's -me). That means that you won't have to un-install the mod to play Starsiege normally. For more detailed information on the mod, as well as a download link, visit the Sentinal Mod Download Page

M.I.B. Campaign version 2.2 Released!! - 04/12/02

I completely re-worked the MIB Campaign missions, fixing many bugs and adding several new features. Included in this pack is also a version of the campaign which is designed to be 100% compatible with dedicated servers, which means no more server overloading or crashing during mission cycling. In fact, this is virtually the same version currently running on CA: Campaign missions. Read the included readme file for further details on what was changed/added and installation instructions. Trust me, you'll need to read it because it is critical that all the files are installed in the right folders in order for the campaign to run correctly. Enjoy.

M.I.B. IP Logger/Banner (version 1.1) - 01/31/02

This program utilizes a modified motd.cs to log every player that enters your server into IP_LOGGER.txt, which is created in your Starsiege main directory after you've started your server once. The program logs the date, the time, the player's name, his squad, and his IP address. You can also ban certain IPs by examining your log, then adding the player to the ban list (instructions included in motd.cs). This program does not use the player::onAdd function. This means that you still retain full scripting capabilities on your server.

The included list of banned IPs will also be periodically updated, so keep checking the MIB downloads page to find the latest version. The current version of the included ban list was last updated by MIB security: 10/06/02

Starsiege Master Servers are back up!! - 01/23/02

It looks like Sierra didn't take down the master servers after all. Apparently, the master servers were hacked into by a group of hackers, which caused them to be down for more than a week. And due to a misleading e-mail from Sierra tech support, everyone in the Starsiege community thought that Sierra had finally taken the master servers down for good. But now the master servers are back up and running smoothly. So if you had previously updated your master.cs to use the NTDF master server, you need to switch back over to the original master.cs, in order to connect to the Sierra master servers once again.

Starsiege Master Servers - 01/11/02

The day we've all dreaded is finally here. Sierra has finally decided to shut down the Starsiege master servers permanently. This means ordinary players like yourself will not be able to find other servers and likewise, other players will not be able to find your servers.

Fortunately, NTDF Vyper has aquired a copy of the Starsiege master server code and is currently hosting a community-based master server from his own machine. But there's a catch. In order for your computer to find NTDF's master server, you'll need to download an updated master.cs file and replace the old version in your C:\Dynamix\Starsiege\scripts folder. The file is currently available for download at several locations, including this site.

Download the following file and unzip it to your C:\Dynamix\Starsiege\scripts folder, overwriting the old version of master.cs with the new version when prompted to do so.

Download master2.zip (359 bytes)

We Siegers may have been dealt a big blow, but we WILL recover. Starsiege will never die as long as there are players who play it.

To keep up with current events concerning the future of Starsiege and the master servers, visit the Starsiege General Discussion Forum and read the posts there.

Starsiege Chess Released!!! - 11/11/01

Created by Com. Sentinal [M.I.B.], Starsiege Chess is a complete fully-functional chess game scripted into Starsiege. The pieces are made from human and cybrid vehicle husks and the chess board is an elaborate terrain created by Gen. Powio [MIB]. The interactive cursor system allows for easy selection and movement of pieces, as well as feedback error messages if you try to make an illegal move. SS_Chess also supports all special chess moves, including en passant, king & queen-side castling, and pawn promotion. The script will also warn you when your king is put in check, if you attempt to move your king into check, or if your king will be in check if you move a different piece. It's THAT sophisticated! SS_Chess also has a surrender option, so that a player can surrender when placed in checkmate or stalemate. SS_Chess also supports the use of optional keymaps such as HercBoost_Keymap.cs and includes the new 8-button Universal_Keymap.cs. These keymaps are NOT required to play, but they make gameplay much faster than scanning drone balls. Starsiege Chess is an awesome game which brings the complex mental game of Chess into the Starsiege Universe. So why not play it with a fellow squadmate or friend?

RC Rampage and Download Updates! - 10/30/01

RC_Rampage, created by Gen. Raven [M.I.B.] puts you in an arena where players can control an RC car or plane. Players can control their RC vehicle either by using the HercBoost Keymap, or by scanning directional arrows at the edge of the arena. Players can use their RC vehicles to play 4 different games:

RC Seeker Hunt - Run down seekers with your RC vehicle to score points.
RC DeathMatch - Destroy enemy RC vehicles by firing your RC vehicle's weapon at them.
RC Racing - Race around a P shaped track for 5 laps.
RC Capture the Flag - Steal the enemy team's flag and return it to your own, but watch out for enemy fire!

Also, the latest versions of ClientScript and Raven's Console Stuff are now available. New features of ClientScript v3.1 include the option the show client's scripts in the chat window, and a customizable onSendScript() function. Console Stuff 1.5 includes new console scriptlets, plus all the previous commands and an introduction to the console.

TrigonometryStdLib and HercBoost have both been updated to version 2.1. This is due to some recently discovered bugs dealing with the sin() function in TrigonometryStdLib.cs. Ultimate Cybrid Taunt Pack - 04/10/01

I've finished putting together another brand-new taunt pack called the Ultimate Cybrid Taunt Pack. It features 99 previously-unusable cybrid squadmate taunts from the Cybrid campaign as well as a few of the "classic" cybrid taunts. Some of the new squadmate taunts include Corinthian\\Blue, Eats-Only-Heads, Tyranny, Unrelent, other generic cybrid squadmates, Nexus, and other taunts. This pack utilizes .vol files already in Starsiege, so you already have the .wav files, they just aren't normally usable. Unfortunately, this means that only other people who download this pack can hear your new cybrid taunts (unless they can execute their own .vol files themselves). Anyway, this is a MUST for any true cybrid fans!

Server-Crashing Hack Immunity Patch - 03/29/01

There is now a patch available to defend against the server-crashing hacks out there. This will make it so that if anyone tries to use a server-crashing hack on you, you will be immune to its effects. This immunity works for both server hosts and clients, so you should be completely safe. The immunity patch is an update to the censor.cs file in your Starsiege\scripts folder, so you will have to overwrite the one you currently have. After installing, you can enable the immunity by going into the Starsiege options menu and enabling the chat-censoring option. Full instructions about installing the immunity patch are included in a readme.

There are 2 different versions. One that doesn't censor curse words, and one that does:
