1760-62 Studies Law at Edinburgh

1763 Meets Samuel Johnson on May 16th in Tom Davies Bookshop
1763-64 Studies law in Utrecht
1764-66 Goes on Grand Tour visiting Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Corsica, France
1766 Mother dies in January; July 29th  becomes an advocate at  the Scots bar
1767 Publishes “Dorando: Essence of the Douglas Cause”

1769 On November 25 he marries his first cousin, Margaret Montgomerie
