1728 Enters Pembroke College, Oxford.
1729 Returns home.
1731 Death of his father, Michael.
1734 Offers his services to Edward Cave, proprietor of the Gentleman's Magazine.
1735 Marries Elizabeth Porter, widow. Publishes Voyage to Abyssinia.
1737 Sets out for London with David Garrick.
1738 Becomes a permanent member of the Gentleman's Magazine. Publishes "London".
1744 Publishes "The Life of Savage".
1747 Publishes "The Plan for the Dictionary of the English Language".
1749 Publishes "The Vanity of Human Wishes". The play "Irene" is brought out at Drury Lane Theater.
1750 Begins "The Rambler".
1752 Death of his wife. Last issue of "The Rambler".
1755 Letter to Lord Chesterfield. Publishes the "Dictionary".
1759 Death of his mother. Writes "Rasselas".
1762 Granted a pension of 300 pounds per annum.
1763 Meets Boswell on May 16th.
1764 Literary Club is founded.
1765 Introduced to the Thrales by Arthur Murphy. Publishes his edition of Shakespeare.
1767 Has an interview with King George III.
1770 Publishes "The False Alarm".
1773 Tour to Scotland
1775 Publishes "The Journey to the Western Islands of Scotland" and "Taxation No Tyranny". Tours France with the Thrales.
1776 Has dinner with John Wilkes.
1779 Publishes "The Lives of the Poets". Death of David Garrick.
1781 Death of Henry Thrale.
1782 Death of Levett. Leaves Streatham.
1783 Has a stroke of the palsy.
1784 Visits Oxford with Boswell. Dies on December 13th.
