Notes: In Japan of the early 1990s running an English School was a good way to up your standing in the community AND provide a nice tax shelter for one's more profitable businesses. Sadly, that meant that MANY of them were run by people who had NO interest in education ... they just wanted to make a quick buck. Although nothing like this ever happened to me ... it is a nearly word-for-word reiteration of meeting several of my friends had with the owners of their schools.Today the "English bubble" has burst and NO ONE goes into the English School business to make a quick buck. There is still money to be made, mind you ... it just takes a while.
