Okay, I still remember the day I bought this album. Let me slip into my storytelling mode and I'll tell you about it:
It was a cold spring morning. I remember that when I woke up, I felt as if there was going to be a monumental occurance in my life that day. All the morn, as I was preparing to embark on my great voyage to the Indian Mound Mall, I could barely contain my excitement. As the day progressed and the moment of my departure neared, I was certain this day would something the likes of which had never been seen. I was excited beyond all belief. Then came the moment I decided to leave.
The moment came whilst I was enjoying the serenity and simplicity of the typical spring afternoon. On my voyage, I noticed everything seemed brighter, more colorful, and more interesting (incidentally, I would later reflect that it was the same feeling someone feels when they are engaged in a relationship with a female). Finally, my seemingly endless travels ended up in the parking lot of the famed Indian Mound Mall of Ohio. I quickly exited my vehicle and even more quickly directed all of my attention toward moving as quickly as possible to Record Town. I somehow knew this would be the store that contained the album I was searching for. I seemingly mystical side of the story is that at the time, I didn't even know what album I was purchasing. Just that it would be there, whatever it was. I was somehow drawn to the B section, and then drawn directly to the band known as Blink 182. Here I found the object of all my desires: Buddha. I was exstatic. This album was not available for immediate purchase anywhere around my domicile. The excitement and entertainment I recieved from listening to this album will never be forgotten. And then a few days later, the album was accosted along with my CD player and approximately 45 other prized albums. That's how things go in my life.
Anyway, that aside, I really really just like this album. The sound quality is horrible, but it's a demo, and you can't expect very much from a demo. But as far as demos go, it doesn't sound too bad. Especially when compared to their next album. It sounds like crap, and it's a studio album. Oh well. Great songs, I actually like a lot of the riffs and such better than their new stuff, cause he did them faster. Tom has gotten progressively slower with each album. So that means in a few albums, he's going to be playing whole-note riffs. Not really, but I was trying to sound cool. Sorry about that. I like their cover of Screeching Weasel's song The Girl Next Door. I think they did a better job 'cause Mark's voice is more easily accepted. Whatever that means. I know what it means, but I'm going to try to explain it.
Stand out tracks: Carousel, TV, Strings, Fentoozler, Time, Romeo & Rebecca, 21 Days, Sometimes, Point of View, Reebok Commercial, Toast and Bananas, The Girl Next Door.
Great stuff. Probably one of my favorite "underground" albums ever. I say "underground" because at the time, no one had heard of Blink 182. Nor would they hear of them until a few albums later, with Dude Ranch.
