Forgive me,
but today
I do not want
to talk about death.
Today I want
to touch the sun-
warmed earth
and feel the gentle push
of green
as the seeds I planted
unravel into life.
Today I want to marvel
at the softness of skin
the blueness of sea
the tangy smell of lemons
the static flight
of the green-throated hummingbird
that hovers outside my window
and all the gifts
this world
showers upon us
like diamonds thrown into the air
and for a moment
flash brilliant in the sun.
Today,
I don't want
to turn my back
on the world
the earth that breathes
in cycles of centuries
and has yet to inhale me
back into its depths.
Today,
I choose to honor life
by living
fully
in this world.
