Portland Head Light - Cape Elizabeth
|
The Portland Head light is Maine's oldest
lighthouse, commissioned by George Washington
in 1791.
Because of it's close proximity to Portland,
and its accessibility (you can even stroll
the grounds), it is perhaps the most visited
lighthouse on the Maine coast.
Ironically, we don't have any color photographs
of the light to share with you at this time.
But below is one of our favorite photographs.
Taken in black and white and scanned from
a print, it shows the venerable light in
one of the weather conditions it was designed
for, dense fog.
