Changes for 1999:


Late in the 1998 season Steve Hmeil came on board DEI on a trial basis. He liked what he saw, and decided to become a member of the team in the role of Team Consultant. This will be his first full season with the team, and his years of experience can only help to build on the successes this team has accomplished. DEI hired a driver many will be familiar with as a tire changer for the Daytona 500, Tom Hubert. Its a chance for Tom to be visible and available, and for the team to benifit from his experince. Read the press release to hear more about this unique story.

Dale Earnhardt Inc. announced Monday, March 1st, the hiring of longtime engine man Jeff Clark to work on the #1 Pennzoil Monte Carlo driven by Steve Park.

Clark began shop duties this week in the DEI engine dynamometer room and will also spearhead DEI's chassis dynamometer testing program. He will travel with the Pennzoil team to Las Vegas this week to work as the engine tuner.

Clark, 31, worked 7 years for Robert Yates Racing and a year with Penske South Racing. He is the husband of ARCA driver Shawna Robinson.

Dale Earnhardt Inc. announced Tuesday May 11th that Steve Hmiel will serve as interim crew chief on Steve Park's Pennzoil Monte Carlo for the remainder of 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup season. Hmiel replaces Philippe Lopez who resigned Monday.

Ten days later the announcement was made that Paul Andrews had been hired as Steve's new chew chief. After Andrews was surprisingly let go as Jeremy Mayfield's crew chief, DEI quickly approached him. He is one of only 6 active crew chiefs who have been part of a Championship team. (Paul was part of Alan Kulwicki's great team)
