Saiya-jin PridePre University

My primary and lower secondary education was based in the village where I have mainly lived since the age of 5 , Thorpe-le-Soken. For my GCSEs and A level examinations I attended Tendring High School in the nearby town of Frinton-on-sea, Essex.

Lancaster University

In October 1995 I began a three year undergraduate course at Lancaster University. Combining my intersets in geography, physics and maths I studied Geophysical Sciences including such topics as Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Meteorology.

Me graduating at Lancaster University, June 1998, with my parents.

My dissertation was analysing volcanic water ice flows on Europa using data from a NASA Galileo probe. On completion in June 1998 I obtained an upper second class honours degree, the second highest grade possible.

Class of '98. Me and fellow geophysicists, June 1998.

University of Kent at Canterbury

After recovering from my scoliosis surgery, in September 1999 I began an Masters by research course at the University of Kent at Canterbury. I had intially intended to do a postdoctorate degree but funding problems and the nature of the topic meant I just completed a 1 year research project only.

At this multicultural university I met friendly people from all across the globe. I made great friends with people from Italy, Spain, India, USA and the Carribean.

University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK

In October 2003 I have once again returned to education to commence a PhD. Provisionally entitled 'Seismic Hazard and Risk in China: Extreme values and estimation of potential building losses within a megacity' I have done a three year research study into earthquake hazard and risk in the world's most populous country. Yet again I have been lucky to meet fantastic people and have travelled to Shanghai, Berlin, Tashkent and Geneva. At present I am completing my thesis write-up.
