5. Gridlock to Seoul

Saturday Another hangover, it seems soju always gives me a bad head I'll stick to wine in future. My hosts had been invited to a slide show at an environmental pressure group in Seoul so we picked peaches to take. Then Mr You showed me how to collect oak leaves for the deer.

The journey was very aggravating, 70 Km from the centre we were already stuck as Saturday traffic returned to the city.

The show used a study of wild goats in a national park to show the struggle to promote conservation values against unenlightened mass tourism and government promotion of infrastructure development. The group call themselves Nature Trail (see www.fulssi.or.kr )

To be honest I couldn't really understand much. Not only was the language different, but also being a vastly different culture the way it was done was completely unexpected from the rigorous organized western events. The Koreans were very patient; it lasted 4 hours.

Meanwhile I nipped out and walked around the nearby streets. It is an entertainment area choc a bloc with restaurants and bars; all a different world to me.

At 11 pm we went to a restaurant and the Koreans partied till 5am while I slept.

Sunday- The traffic leaving Seoul was incredible, at 7am there were already millions leaving to visit ancestral grave sites.

After such a hard week we slept the rest of the day.
