Hard Work and lots of Soju - I saw rural life, appeared on the TV news, gave lectures at a school, met the city mayor and was a special guest at an Agriculture institute, saw many festivals (usually pretty similar), toured the huge industrial plants in Ulsan. And met many kind people Thanks. I was spoilt rotten..my own personal guides, the police taxi etc .

Lonely Planet Korea is my Guidebook .. It's the only reasonable guidebook, but the writer loves temples Culture Shock Korea : provides good background to the culture, but it's obvious the culture is changing fast. Korea : A walk through the land of Miracles , by Simon Winchester - very good, but it seems Korea has changed a lot since he wrote the book in 1988
