Randonneurs USA (RUSA) has approved the 2009 calendar of events. I will be offering two full ACP series in 2009. There are many opportunities to enjoy the weather, the roads and company on the farm roads of west-central Illinois.

I have received the brevet certificates from RUSA for all ACP sanctioned events. I will be working on completing your brevet cards and mailing out your card to the address on your latest brevet.

The first brevet is in just a few days. It's going to take some hearty souls and a lot of determination to show up for the start, and finish the ride. Our weather forecast for Saturday is for wind/rain (a few showers) with temps starting in the low to mid 30's and only reaching the mid 40's.

Please note: Due to severe weather, mostly rain, some roads for the 200K and possibly the upcoming 300K events are under water. I am rerouting the event accordingly, and will have updated maps at checkin.

A note regarding the St. Louis 600K. I have not been able to come up with another route this year. We will use the same route as last year (2007) with an overnight in Vienna IL. If you plan on riding this event and plan to overnight at the Limited Inn, need to contact the hotel directly at 618-658-6300 or visit their website.

Winter is finally here. Depending on how adventurous you are, there is still plenty of opportunities for riding your bicycle. The key in the winter is dressing in layers, keeping up on your hydration and food intake, and having a good set of lights for those after work rides. Don’t forget to pack a spare tube and tire pump.

Speaking of tire pumps, make sure yours actually works. If you haven’t used it in a long time the seals may have dried out and it may fail to pump your tire up to the proper pressure. Give your pump a try at home, before you need it on the road.

The 2008 Calendar of events has been approved and is posted here on the Calendar page, as well as the RUSA website. For 2008, I am running a full ACP Super Randonneur Series (200K, 300K, 400K and 600K) as well as additional RUSA sanctioned events on the same dates. If you’re goals for the coming year are less aggressive, you can ride shorter rides. Check out the calendar. Ride safe, ride smart, be seen and keep alert.

New 600K Route for 2008
I am currently working on a new 600K route for this year. I hope to have it completed and approved by RUSA by March. The route, if approved, will consist of two loops, the first would be to the south of approximately 350K coming back to the starting point, followed by a northern loop of approximately 250K. Again this is in the works. If I do not get this finished and approved prior to March, then we wil use the existing 600K route we have used in years past. Additional information will follow.
