Each rider is considered to be on a personal ride. Brevets are NOT races. Rider safety and personal responsibility are paramount. As all rides are held in the state of Illinois, each rider must follow the "Rules of the Road" as outlined by the State of Illinois with regards to operating a bicycle. This of course includes, but is not limited to following all traffic laws, and lighting requirements.

In Illinois, riders are allowed to ride two abreast, as long as they do not interfer with the normal flow of traffic, and must ride as far to the right as practicable.

All regulations as outlined in the "Rules for Riders" from the Randonneurs USA (RUSA) web site must be followed. RUSA enforces the use of helmets, and additional lighting requirements, which include the use of either a reflective sash, vest or Sam Browne belt and reflective bands on both ankles. Redundant lighting, both front and rear is HIGHLY recommended.

In order to be an official finisher, all regulations must be followed.
