![]() Welcome to the second slam-bang action issue of BIKER MICE FROM MARS! By now, you've probably had the awesome opportunity to see them burnin' rubber on the screen and we hope you'll be here each month to see their further, and exclusive, adventures from Marvel Comics! Until this page gets filled with your letters, we plan to do a little background on some of the creative geniuses behind the Martian motor mice! WRITER/PRODUCER RICK UNGAR Marvel Productions President Rick Ungar has been many things in his life; from A & R director of Electra-Asylum Records to supervising producer for FOX Broadcasting Company's Totally Hidden Video and Haywire, as well as supervising producer for FOX's America's Cutest Kids. But beginning with this very comic book series, Ungar dips deeper into his creative mind to scribe both the comic book and animated series of Marvel's BIKER MICE FROM MARS. No stranger to the comic book world, Ungar served as co-executive producer of the highly successful Marvel animated series, THe X-MEN during its 1992-93 season. As both co-writer and executive producer of BIKER MICE, Ungar has been given an opportunity to try his hand at success in two more fields. "The first three stories mirror the cartoon," Ungar said. "But after that, the comic gets a little bit of a harder edge. I can take them places [in the comic] where I can't in the cartoon. "I've got the story notions for issues four, five, and six already, and I plan on adding a lot of new elements to the comic. You'll begin to wonder about the Chicago police chief and exactly what he's up to." And if writing stories for both television and comics weren't enough, Ungar has already started on his next project which he also hopes to see as a Marvel comic book: Stealth Warriors of the Red Pyramid, which will debut as a cartoon for FOX in the Fall of 1994. "Stealth Warriors will focus on Colonel Zeke Patriot, and deal with the positive and negative powers of the pyramids," said Ungar. "It's a very military storyline." When he's not at work, Rick lives with his wife and two children in Los Angeles, CA. WRITER BOB FORWARD Bob Forward has taken the long and winding road into the world of animation, having first gone the route of security guard and punk rock night club bouncer before he began working in animation, It was a decision he made because, "there were more opportunities for violence," in cartoons. After a brief stint as a storyboard artist, "before realizing it was more fun to create problems, rather than try to solve them" Forward began writing. His long list of credits include He-Man, She-ra, and the first episode of Captain Planet. A veteran author of hundreds of other animation scripts, two "extremely violent" novels" and a number of screenplays, BIKE RMICE FROM MARS marks his first foray into the world of comic book writing. Working as co-conspirator on both the cartoon and comic for BIKER MICE has been a highlight for Forward because, "we get to use real guns." And he's enjoyed it so much he's already planning his next comic book project, which he hopes to work with Marvel on called THE OWL. "The Owl is sort of a private detective-slash-vigilante," said Forward. "He doesn't sleep. And because he doesn't sleep he wanders the streets of L.A. at night." "Basically, he kills lots and lots of people. If someone has done you wrong, he'll track them down for you and kill them in the most horrible manner," Forward assured. "He's justice for hire; vengeance with a price." Forward is also the proud possessor of "any cartoon writer's most important asset--two small and dangerous boys." PRODUCER/DIRECTOR TOM TATARANOWICZ Born in Detroit, MI, Tom Taranowicz began his career as a "long-haired hippie" and went to Wayne State University for Fine Arts. Taking the hint to "Go West Young Man," Tom began his career in animation in 1978 working as an Assistant Animator with the esteemed Ralph Bakshi on Lord of the Rings. After that, Tom worked on a number of projects as an animator including the feature films, Hey Good Looking, American Pop, and Fire and Ice. His work eventually led him to begin a career as director where he took on such projects as Bobby's World, She-Ra, and Ghostbusters. In 1988, he directed the Feature Film, Bravestarr, The Legend. After working with Disney Feature Animation Development for a while, Tom moved over to Marvel Productions where he has produced and directed television shows like, Little Shop and The Magic Paintbrush. THE BIKER MICE FROM MARS marks his most recent syndicated series for Marvel. IRON CHEF FRENCH HIROYUKI SAKAI Sorry, couldn't resist. --ed.
