Ravaged
Innocence
By PoppyK1@aol.com
The story spread across the page, above the carpet ad.
A little girl of 8 years old, was ravaged by her dad.
She is in intensive care and he is now in jail.
I can't believe they'll let him out, if someone makes his bail.
Her life is ruined, her childhood crushed by sexual abuse.
But if someone will pay a price, this animal gets loose.
Her life is shattered and this little girl will never heal.
While the lawyers in the courtroom play let's make a deal.
Her innocence was taken and can never be replaced.
For years she'll live with guilt and shame,
because she was disgraced.
Why oh why America, can we not stop this crime?
Is it because.... the punishment is serve a little time?
This little girl will go through life with agony and pain.
While in the shadows of her mind, the haunting guilt and shame.
But.... the guilty party, will serve out his time and then
Will be released out on the street, where he can strike again.
Is the reason child abuse, a horror that exists,
Because the punishment is just a slapping of the wrist?
Are we all so helpless, we can only sit and cry?
Or is it time America, to seek an "eye for an eye"?
