PENICLILLUM mold is an ascomycete. This mold is the producer of the anitbody penicillin There are two cycles, the ASEXUAL and the SEXUAL forms of reproduction. |
ASEXUAL CYCLE |
SEXUAL CYCLE |
- Have airborn spores named conidia (n). - Spores are formed separate from the sexual spores on the mycelium (n). - Spores germinate forming new mycelium. |
- Have reproductive structure called ascocarps. - Ascocarps formed from the mycelium and ASCOGONIUM and ANTHERIDIUM to make a (2n hyphae) . - The dikaryotic hyphae sends nucleus up to new structures at top of ascocarp. - This undergoes meiosis and mitosis to form ASCOSPORE. - Ascospores (n) get released into air and germinate mycelia (also n) |
