Sudeshna Maulik started her dancing career at the early age of seven at Calcutta . She continued her learning in this dance form from Miss Rani Khanam , Shri Jaikishan Maharaj Ji at Shri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra, New Delhi and later at Kathak Kendra, New Delhi under the guidance of Katha Maestro Guru Pundit Shri Birju Maharaj Ji.Sudeshna has successfully completed her Diploma(hons) in Kathak dance and has passed the Nirtya Visharad Degree from the Prachin Kala Kendra, Chandigarh and has been selected as a examiner for the same in year(2000). She combines clarity of line and form. With her brilliance in this art form she has given sparkling performance in India and abroad sponsored by the I.C.C.R. and I.T.D.C. etc. She is graded artiste in Delhi Doordarshan and has performed in C.P.C. She has participated in different ballets choreographed by phenomenal gurus like Guru Pt. Birju Maharaj Ji, Padmashree Uma Sharma, Padmasree Saroja Vaidyanathan , and well-known danseuses like Rani Khanan,Geetanjali Lal and Aditi Mangal Das. She is also the recipient of the National Scholarship(1995) and Junior Fellowship (2000) awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She was also selected as the Best Kathak Dancer by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs in the year 2000. In the same year she was felicitated by the Rajya Sangeet Academy, West Bengal.
