The Culture of Free Software & Linux
Linux has thived & will continue to thrive from the culture of
Free Software.
The copyright for most Linux distrubutions is covered under the GNU public lisence,
which most free softwares fall under.
This kind of copyright provides that the original author retains the right to his or her
software.
But people can use the GNU software in their software, change it & redistribute it as they
please.
They do however, have to include the source code with their distribution or make it easily
available.
Even if you repackage & resell the sofware the future users must have the opportunity to
change the source code,
just as you did.
So naturally Lots of people get hold of a Linux distribution & alter it, giving birth to a
new distribution of Linux.
The Following are a few wellknown distributions of Linux.
Redhat
Mandrake
SuSE
