What is Linux?

Linux is a free operating system that was created by Linus Torvalds when he was a student in the University of Helenski in 1991. He started the Linux by writing a kernel - the heart of the operating system - partly from scratch & partly by using publicly available softwares. Torvalds then released the system to his friends & to a community of "hackers" on the internet and told them to work on it, fix it & enhance it. Thus the Operating System Linux was born.

There are several advantages of Linux.

Accessing internet is much faster than Windows that we usually use. The Drivers that comes with the linux packages are also uptodate. So we can get better performance from our hardware that we usually don't get due to unavaibality of the right & latest driver. Linux is also very safe. every file has it own permissions defined describing who can access & alter the files, moreover there has been no virus for Linux. The sound quality on Linux is also much better than Windows. There is also a very unique facility that is provided by few other Operating Systems, it is that Linux can run softwares originally intendes for other Operating Systems like Windows, Mac, etc.
