bang.
this film, starring newcomer darling narita, is one of my favorite movies
i've seen recently. i found it in the blockbuster in my town, and read
the synopsis and thought i'd give it a try...and low and behold, it's one
of those "grrl's kick ass" kind of "thelma and louise" kind of thing going
on for itself, and i generally like those type of movies. basically, this
woman is evicted out of her apartment, auditions for a role, gets taken
advantage of there...and later in the day she is apprehended by a cop and
is also taken advantage of. which all makes it a really horrible start
to her day...until she fights back, steals the sleazy cop's uniform and
goes around in his motorcycle. her day as a cop gives her empowerment and
an adventure she will never forget...i really liked this one, go see it
if you can find it. (btw...i just did some research on this one, and heard
it only took $20,000 to make...also, production was constantly being interrupted
by real LAPD heli's because they did not have permits to shoot the film...hell,
if this movie was made by breaking a few laws, more of a reason to see
it...)
it's in the water.
starting as a joke, a rumor goes around in a small, conservative town
that the water is making people gay! this is a sweet film, with a few storylines,
and lots of humor. the main characters involve two friends who happen to
meet again and one friend reveals that she is gay. this is one of
the few "gay-themed" movies that has made me laugh (ie...billy's first
hollywood screen kiss, with that flamey guy from will and grace).
this was a hard video to find, but blockbuster should have at least one
in its new release shelves. if you're open-minded and wouldn't mind watching
a few queers get close, then hey, watch this...it's a rarity when a real
(good) queer movie gets any exposure to the public...there's no graphic
sex...at least by "bound" standards...watch it with "billy's first..."
in the company of men.
i hated the male characters in this movie. both of them. and that's
why i give a good review of this movie. it was meant for us to loathe and
despise them, and the actors/director/script all worked well enough in
order for the audience to hate everything about the sordid men featured
in this flick. basically, these two guys have to work a couple of weeks
in another city for their jobs. this one guy, i forgot his name, is tired
of the way women treat him; how they are manipulative and such. so, he proposes
that the both of them should f*ck over a woman while at their stay at this
new city. they look all over for a vulnerable lady for them to screw over.
and they pick a deaf woman who works in the same office...and the rest
of the film deals with them playing with this poor, deaf woman! i hated
both guys. and for bringing me to emotional edges, i give the filmmaker
props...because i rarely see those extreme emotions, and they have tapped
into something inside of me that people rarely touch...and because their
goal was to evoke a strong response to the characters and achieved it.
it's a bit slow at the beginning, but picks up after a while. the last
scene just made me hate this one guy even more...the same filmmaker also
made your friends and neighbors, which has an immoral theme to it
also (adultery)...you hate almost everyone (man and woman)...you just have
to watch it...
