movies and videos that my eyes, ears, and mind feast on...
actually, i enjoy a lot of art house, foreign, and indie films...and yes, i do on occasion enjoy the major, crowd pleasing big feature...these reviews, or what have you, are not in any particular order...

the spitfire grill.
this was one sad-ass movie. this movie made me cry this one particular night. and this means a lot because i usually don't cry in movies, unless you count my first showing of "the joy luck club". aside the point, geez, i wish i took notes and remembered the chic's name! i saw it a couple of weeks ago, so everything is kind of blurry. basically, this girl gets a fresh new start after her time in jail at this cafe/restaurant as a helper. she becomes a part of the small town; integral to the ailing restaurant owner, and the subject of much of the gossip around town. there are secrets revealed and tears to be shed. this movie bites if you hate sad movies. but, if you like being taken to the brinks of human emotions, like me, then watch this film. it's a good, well-acted, fine indie film!

four rooms.
i rented this video again. i loved it the first time around...and now with the second time around i still feel the same. the story line follows a bellboy and four "rooms". each room was written and directed by different people. and my fave is the 3rd room: "misbehavin'" the first room, however, involves a bunch of witches, comprised by a few big names: madonna, ione skye, um, um, geez, i'm bad with names. but, a footnote: i read that ione skye was sexually confused during the filming because she had a hot and cold affair with jenny shimizu (hot, dykey CK model), a friend of maddona's. she's divorcing that beastie boy she married, and has decided what she really wants...anyhoo, that's it. after reading this, i decided to rehash "four rooms" and see any indicators. well, for the most part of ione's performance she was topless...so i don't know what to think about that one. anyhoo, the second room was the worst...some couple who likes to role play. the third room is with antonio banderas and tamilyn tomita and these bratty kids. the bellboy is paid to watch over them, and mayhem ensues. it was a fun vignette. geez, did i speel that wright? heh. and the third one pertains to a bet. bruce willis, and yes, nice and crude qt (quentin tarentino to those who don't know) are players in this one. "four rooms" - pick it up!

living out loud.
hmm...i don't know if EVERYBODY would like this video. i liked it a lot. the film delves into the thoughts of a wronged woman, and a man who is lost in life. holly hunter, danny devito and queen latifah give good performances. the thing is, is that it can be slow at some parts, and some people may think it's boring. but, you have to know that i like movies where there are discussions on life and on wants in life. at least i don't feel alone in mindlessly discussing the reasons why we do things in relationships. at this one particular moment, holly's character discusses relationships: "it's amazing, the things we agree to" or something like that. and she goes off on that. it's kewl. anyhoo. watch it if you're a holly h. fan.
