A COMPLETE HISTORY OF ALL THAT IS SPACECAMP:

6.09.03
The Space Theocracy LP is finally complete after several grueling weeks of mixing. We admit that Space Theocracy is a ridiculous title; it is a tribute to Theo, the illustrious manager of Felix. It will feature remastered versions of the old songs plus To My Own and Believe in Something. Some sort of release will happen any day now.

5.14.03 - Tom Tom's
Live Forever, SIAS, Backwater, Lost, Tied to Fate, Angels, Believe in Something, Simpleman, And She'll Walk, Are You Gonna Go My Way, Alive, To My Own, Time, Illusion, Little Wing, WFTWE, You Shook Me All Night Long, Take On Me, WOWY, New Year's Day, Baba, Good Enough, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Thank You, Leavin, Dream On, RVM, Baba
The Camp pulls out all the stops for their farewell performance. Some new songs, some old ones... Jonathan MacLeod fills in on lead guitar during Alive. This show had the best crowd, the longest set, the most sweat, the strangest theatrics (Carl who was that girl?), the most shots, the coolest attire. It all ended with Baba O'Riley, and a number of the faithful latching onto the microphone, desperate not to let go of the Camp, and all for which they stood. A good night for music.

5.13.03 - Copley Lawn
And She'll Walk, WFTWE, Time, Are You Gonna Go My Way, Take On Me, Baba, RVM, Good Enough, Dream On
On this rather windy afternoon, as part of Senior Week, the band played for an hour on the same stage that featured Ted Bauer and Maria Shriver speeches the day before. Bob Kriz was in incredibly rare form - jumping incessantly. This was the sweetest stage we'll ever play on. We were told it cost several thousand dollars to construct. People were playing frisbee. This was a sort of warm up show...

5.03.03 - 3313 N Street
Good Enough, Illusion, Alive, To My Own, WOWY, And She'll Walk, Thank You, Leavin, Angels
A rather spontaneous acoustic show happens at the Stolpman & Co. barbeque. The band is not sure what to play. George insists on being inaudible.

4.30.03 - A Pilgrimage
The Spacecamp and 7KT crews journey to Uniondale, NY to pay homage to their musical heroes.

4.29.03 - GU Day/Healy Lawn
Good Enough, To My Own, Baba, And She'll Walk, Illusion, RVM
The sun breaks through the clouds. We unleash a rather short set. The Provost's Office tries to shut us down half way through. The PA is shut off but we do our best to fight the power and get expelled from school. Matt continues to drum away while negotiating with a belligerent old woman. Later, Dubya again joins Paul is Dead for Freebird, which concludes their final performance.(CD)

4.27.03 - Springfest
Spacecamp makes an impromptu appearance in the Henle Courtyard. We told all of our friends that the show was cancelled so no one came. One Cup Shy drops an unauthorized performance of SIAS, which provokes war. Dubya joins Paul is Dead for an unrehearsed and abbreviated version of Freebird. More to come...

4.24.03 - Felix Lounge
Superstition, Tied to Fate, Angels, SIAS, Time, Simpleman, WOWY, Alive, Leavin/Baba, Drug Paraphernalia, To My Own, Illusion, WFTWE, Good Enough, Dream On, RVM
The final countdown begins. The Camp plays to an enthusiastic (and nearly dangerous) crowd. Despite some intial setbacks, we managed to pull it together... WOWY is dedicated to Ms. Maley, and finally sounds correct. Towards the end the band unleashed unparalleled theatrics. A stellar time (for us, at least.) In parting the club manager, Theo, informs us that we need to work on our professionalism and reduce the overall volume - so much for that! We're all going deaf...

4.16.03 - GU Law School Campus
The Camp makes a trip over to the Union Station area to play at a party for the GU Amnesty International group. Some people nodded their heads and so on - not much interest. Beautiful weather. Our guitar amps and snare drums are now mostly broken. Thanks to Dolehide, Maley, Amy & Kriz #2 for the support. The highlight of this show was the group of small children who stopped to listen and dance around, forcing Carl to modify the RVM lyrics to "I gather speed from you messin' with me."

4.13.03
Four songs off the Grog'd EP are featured in the film "Blood, Sweat, and Wheels" at the Third Annual GUTV Film Festival. Hooray.

4.12.03 - Bulldog Alley
Drumming assassin Matt Niemi fills in on the set for Paul is Dead. Some magical improvisation, Randy Rhodes guitar solos, monster drum fills. The Camp is still debating whether or not to declare war on account of the unauthorized Baba O'Riley performance.

4.10.03 - Tom Tom's
To My Own, Live Forever, SIAS, Angels, WFTWE, Leavin, Time, Illusion, Alive, And She'll Walk, RVM, Lost, Little Wing, Believe, Tied to Fate, Thank You, WoWY, Dream On, Good Enough, Baba, WFTWE
This was our One-Year Anniversary Show (see 4.11.02). Another stellar crowd propels the band to an otherwise unattainable level of energy - even Bob Kriz taps his foot during Dream On. Lauren Wall rushes the stage and lip-syncs the last four songs. And yes, you read correctly. WFTWE was played twice, due to popular demand.

4.03.03 - Leavey Esplanade
Lost, Angels, To My Own, Time, Live Forever, RVM, Leavin, Believe, WOWY, Good Enough, Dream On, Baba
A great night for music: the debut of Paul is Dead kickstarts the show with a splendid spectacle of black t-shirt and jeans glory, followed by a typically virtuosic performance by the Moo Shoo Porkestra. They finished their set just as the Hoyas lost to St. Johns by 3 points - oh well. DOPS tries to shut the show down at 11PM because the hospital patients and hotel guests are trying to sleep - oh well. Tired, confused, and blinded by
blazing stage lighting. The Camp plays for about an hour to a very cool Georgetown crowd. The sloppiness of the covers tonight is cancelled out by the splendour of our new backdrop curtain, which was created by stapling bandmembers' bedsheets together. Squid is called to the stage and joins on the closer, to much fanfare. (VHS&CD)

3.25.03 - Uncommon Grounds
Illusion, I Got Id, Big Empty
Because it has been so terribly long since any of us have played music, Sixty Cent is formed to perform at our favourite grass roots coffee shop. It is an interesting acoustic-type show replete with bass, bongos, and sophisticated electronic gadgetry. Later on merciless jamming ensues with Aaron from Moo Shoo. Hopefully we can plug in soon and destroy everything.

2.28.02 - Lauinger Library 1st Floor
Recording, Round Three. We're very excited about these next two songs. We're also excited about drinking Killian's in the library, which we've never done until now. Sweet. In other news, check out what the Georgetown Voice had to say about how awesome we are, here.

2.20.03 - Felix Lounge
SIAS, Live Forever, Tied to Fate, Simpleman, WFTWE, To My Own, Time, Illusion, Lost, Good Enough, Believe, Thank You, Drug Par., Alive, And She'll Walk, RVM, WOWY, Dream On, Leavin', Baba
We will bring all of Adams Morgan to its knees! Illusion is stopped because of a blazing fire on the side of the bar. Violinist Pat Shen joins us on the new instrumental "Drug Paraphernalia." Happy birthday is sung twice, but most importantly to Jess Maley. This was by far the most enthusiastic crowd we've ever had. Thanks again to Stolpman & Company.

2.15.03

Spacecamp is mentioned on The Simpsons. It has not yet been determined whether they meant the band or the actual camp. I wasn't listening. We're still looking for the exact quote. In other news, Carl comes down with a nasty throat infection and Matt flies up north just in time for the Big Blizzard of '03.

2.09.03 - Gaston Hall
    Good Enough, Dream On, Baba
We were asked to play at the first annual "Senior Parents Farewell Show", so that's what we did. Of course we couldn't pass up the opportunity to perform in historic Gaston Hall. It was a short but sweet performance, given almost unexpectedly. Some parents appeared to be sleeping through our set. Congressman LaFalce was seen tapping his foot. Other notable acts included Matt Hopkins' stand-up comedy, the concert band, and something else. (VHS)

2.08.03 - Grog & Tankard
Effectively replacing the senior auction for some and supplementing it for others was our interesting final appearance at the G&T. A huge crowd of about 200 people started leaving as soon as the band took the stage - incredible. Highlights included: Dr. Steve Niemi (Matt's dad) tearing it up on drums during Pink Floyd's Time, a man in a tuxedo dropping his wife on the floor while dancing, our new heros Pete & Trevor rocking out much harder than the band itself. (VHS)

2.01.03 - STS-107
Excelsior...

1.30.03 - Tom Tom's
Angels, SIAS, WFTWE, To My Own, Believe in Something, Time, And She'll Walk, WoWY, Illusion, Alive, Good Enough, Lost, Simpleman, Dream On, Leavin, RVM, Baba, Thank You
Spacecamp invades Adam's Morgan. Most of the crowd initially didn't care about space or camp or Loverboy covers or anything but we showed them good this time. According to Andrew Tchabovsky: "You guys used to suck, and now you don't." The drink special and the afterparty took a great toll on everyone.

1.25.03 - The Big Hunt
Wow. This was a "senior class event." This show was made possible mostly by Bob Kriz. Maybe 150 people came. Josh Holt tried desperately to get in to see us but he tells us it was impossible. This was our first gig outside the Georgetown Area. We debuted some new songs: "Believe in Something" & "To My Own." We hope somebody enjoyed the show. We did. My amp wasnt working. The show was followed by the first infamous after-party. Its now 4:31AM; I'm tired. Goodnight.

1.16.03 - Third Edition
It was snowing! We had to evade the giant rats while moving equipment in. Then we performed in front of a giant plastic sheet covering a damaged wall. We also had bizarre verbal exchanges with “manager”. Brock, the DJ, asks us to please never cover Dream On again.

1.11.03 - Grog & Tankard
SAIS, And She'll Walk, RVM, Angels of the Silences, Illusion, Alive, Good Enough, Time, Baba, Dream On, Thank You
Spacecamp returns to DC after a month-long break to warm up for their last semester of nonstop ear blistering rock. Good grief. We discovered that Rich Bennett & Joe Binetti really dig Aerosmith... Two unfortunate thirty-somethings walked in and paid the $6 cover just as the Camp were finishing their last song. As a penalty for not bringing in enough business, the G&T manager forces the Camp to drink bourbon with him. I am currently sick from this and deeply regretting it. See you next time.
