Scenic Mountain View Ranch

John, Letitia, and the horses make their home at the aptly named Mountain View Ranch in Danby. The ranch nestles at the base of Dorset Peak (the seventh-tallest mountain in Vermont) surrounded by glorious mountains, including Mt. Tabor, in The Green Mountain National Forest. The setting is calm and pretty all year. Even the address sounds placid—Easy Street. John and Letitia invite guests to ride with them at Mountain View Ranch from mid-October to mid-June, when Sun Bowl Ranch at Stratton Mountain is closed except for sleigh rides on winter weekends. Trail rides at the Mountain View Ranch in the off-peak season are not to be missed!

Summer in Vermont—and summer activities at Sun Bowl—are marvelous, but the three seasons of Mountain View Ranch have an allure all their own.

Co-owner Letitia Sisters, saddled up and ready for a brisk fall ride Breathtaking Vermont foliage

In autumn the air turns crisp, and the green mountainsides erupt in vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. There's something magical about the crunch of hooves on a carpet of fallen leaves. After a bracing ride through the woods and fields of Danby, you may find yourself with a hankering for hot apple pie or some other Vermont specialty.

Horses evolved on the frigid plains of Eurasia, and they love cold weather Winter wonderland

Winter riding is something that must be experienced. What a way to appreciate Vermont's incomparable natural beauty. Invigorated by the cold, your horse is eager to go. The woods are hushed. The sky is vivid blue. Sunlight sparkles on icicle-laden branches. Your breath condenses and hangs in the still air. Dress warmly for the time of your life.

Our friends the møose Spring flowers

There's nothing like spring in Vermont— birds singing, flowers blooming, maple syrup boiling, gentle breezes rustling brilliant new leaves. Everything smells fresh. The sun is warm and inviting.

You may choose from two rides at Mountain View Ranch:
1-hour trail ride 1½-hour trail ride

A tour of rolling open fields and a maple farm with spectacular 180° views of nearby valleys and distant peaks. This is a delightful trip for good riders of all levels, and it's great on those colder days.

Beautiful, isn't it?

Combines the one-hour ride with a trek part of the way up Dorset Peak, past the Danby Marble Mine and other points of interest. This ride is a little more challenging, but it affords incredible mountain views.

Spring and fall are just perfect for riding lessons. We give lessons in winter, too. But because Mountain View Ranch has only an outdoor ring, instruction is generally limited to warm days. (Yes, we do have them.) We offer private lessons at $50 per person. Semi-private ($35) and group lessons ($27) are also available.

Open for trail rides and lessons 9–4 daily: October 10, 2000 - June 9, 2001 and October 10, 2001 - June 14, 2002 except when sleigh rides are offered at Sun Bowl Ranch.
