Notes on times of sequences:
Sequences of songs (live recorded or different takes) have some talk related to them included at the end of the previous track; in these cases, two times are presented: first the time of the track on CD; and in parenthesis the actual time of the song, plus the talk related to it that comes on the previous track, minus the talk related to the next song.

Notes:

The following Beatles songs, unreleased by them, were recorded by other artists:
  • Like Dreamers Do: by The Applejacks (1964)
  • Hello Little Girl: by The Fourmost (1963)

Disc 1 is unique in the whole Anthology as it is edited in "documentary form": speeches are used to introduce the different stages in the early history of the group.
However, this style of editing ended up spoling some tracks: My Bonnie and Searchin' had their introductions crossfaded with speech, there are also some speeches that overlap the very end of some songs, and two of the home-taped tracks are heavily edited (maybe due to their "very bad quality").
Fortunately, this style of compiling wasn't adopted for the other 5 discs of Anthology.

The "Mono" indications on the booklet are most of the times missing (mainly in the 1964 outtakes). In fact, the only tracks in true stereo are Free As A Bird, My Bonnie, Cry For A Shadow, the Around The Beatles recording, Leave My Kitten Alone and Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!. All the other tracks are mono.
Take 3 of I'll Be Back and Take 5 of Eight Days A Week are mono, but have a little reverb added in stereo that gives some "ambience". This effect was also applied to the mono outtakes on Anthology 2.

There are also hard edits in I'll Be Back take 3 and the Eight Days A Week sequence.

Joe Brennan Notes - From his Variation Guide

Leave My Kitten Alone is mock stereo, made by "bouncing" the trebly sounds between the channels.
In Spite Of All The Danger was edited in half a minute. [the evidences to it are unclear to me as there isn't any other release of this song.]
The home recorded tracks were probably taken from the bootleg "Liverpool May 1960", since here and on the bootleg there is reverb that the original source doesn't have.
Shout was edited from 2:00 to 1:27 by eliminating repeats of "A little bit softer now" and "A little bit louder now". [Maybe the Anthology compilers found it too repetitive?]
And a mystery: the No Reply demo was recorded when no drummer was present, but it does feature drums! Brennan tentatively redates it to the same date of Take 2 (track 23), and this way it would be the actual take 1 instead of a demo. His evidences are the laughter about singing errors found on both takes, and also the drums' similarities.
