Reviews of  UKU MERI - "Synthphonies"

[Product Image]

"If Tchaikowsky used Vivaldi's 'Planets' and today's electronic equipment, I think his music would sound a little like this record."

"For the modernists, think ambient techno mixed with Peter Gabriel, the theme from Peter & The Wolf, and Phillip Glass."

"SYNTHPHONIES is not background music.  This is a CD of atmospheric aural paintings that, at times, are scary and beautiful.   There's some real out stuff that gets you feeling real weird, and I like that."

"Synthesizer mood creations and electronic paintings covering a wide range of feels.  Excellent production and package."

Uku Meri, Synthphonies, [Meri Music]

If Tchaikowsky used Vivaldi's 'Planets' and today's electronic equipment, I think his music would sound a little like this record.  "Prowl" and "Look Out Below" epitomize the skill that Mr. Meri has at his disposal.

Sometimes there is a reliance on the keys or the soundtrack ideal, but overall there is a genuine otherworldly vision created.  The sound is never artificial.   Rather, he recreates the calm transmissions of the third encounter.  For the modernists, think ambient techno mixed with Peter Gabriel, the theme from Peter & The Wolf, and Phillip Glass.

UKU MERI, Synthphonies (CD)

This CD contains a collection of original synth-driven pieces.  The performances are quite good and so are the compositions themselves.  Tracks 1-5 were PC-MIDI sequenced and Tracks 6-8 are analog; I must admit that I like the sound of the analog better, but this is a minor point.
SYNTHPHONIES is not background music.  This is a CD of atmospheric aural paintings that, at times, are scary and beautiful.   There's some real out stuff that gets you feeling real weird, and I like that.

RIFFAGE.COM featured UKU MERI "Classical Artist of the Week" - based on his CD "Synthphonies"

"Uku Meri offers solo instrumental works that are created using synthesizers, piano and some percussion. The style is a mixture of classical, soundtrack, earthy and surreal electronics, new age -- not the "wallflower" new age -- and world music influences. This can best described as visual music --
close your eyes and envision the personal spaces that the music evokes."
