Absolute Zero and Chris Cutler to perform at Miami's Subtropics festival

Absolute Zero is scheduled to play the 15th annual Sub Tropics festival in Miami, Florida on February 27. Also appearing will be former Henry Cow/Cassiber/Art Bears/Pere Ubu drummer Chris Cutler on the 28th.

Cutler's solo performances feature his electrified kit, of which there is only one in existence. "Think of an electric guitar," he says, "then think of Fred Frith or Keith Rowe; I try to do the same thing with electrified drums, using piezos, radio mikes and a lot of pedals and peculiar objects."

Please see the reviews of Absolute Zero's CDs elsewhere on this website.

The Subtropics festival has featured such avant-garde luminaries as Derek Bailey, Alvin Lucier, Gene Tierney, Morton Sobotnick, Meridth Monk and others.

Reels of Dreams Unrolled finds new home

As reported elsewhere on this site, Reels of Dreams Unrolled as we now know it is coming to an end. It will live on, however, as part of The Giant Progweed (www.progweed.net). It was the unanimous consensus among the staff at RoDU that Progweed was the best fit with RoDU of the sites that showed interest in incorportaing RoDU's existing material. Though their tastes in clothing fashions may be questionable, Mike Prete and his trusty cohorts at Progweed have an admirably youthful vigor and drive to produce informative reviews on as many various styles of progressive/avant/non-commercial rock as possible.

The coming months will find current RoDU material appearing on the Progweed site, but be sure to come here for the last issue, in which the members of the RoDU staff will review some their most beloved progressive rock albums of all time. After that, be sure to check out Progweed for new reviews on a much more regular basis than Reels of Dreams Unrolled ever attempted. Also, make sure to check Progweed for the very occasional new review by RoDU editor Scott Hamrick.
