Monday, 21 February:
MEATWORKS has now finished its run at SkyCity. Despite the positive
changes made to the play, resulting in a show well-received by all, damaging
early reviews meant lesser numbers throughout its run. However, it is
still quite possible the show may be revived later in its shorter form.
The TV Guide interview with Jan is now with the articles section of this
site.
On a more positive note, Jan has booked her studio time for recording
her third album in late March. Mark de Clive-lowe and his band will be
performing on the album, and there plans yet to include some live songs.
Jan also informs me that she will be on the new local series Street
Legal, for which she has sung the theme song.

the moment with Christmas approaching and the onset of new Millennium waving
a welcoming flag. All these things create a joyful frenzy of bubbling possibilities
and exciting times. Let’s enjoy ourselves.
I have several shows in the pipeline that I would like
to tell you about and I am happy to say that I get to work with some of
the most talented musicians in the country over the next few weeks. It

OTHER:
I recently found a number of websites listing Jan Hellriegel.
They were:
The
New Zealand Music Links
The
Jeff Buckley FAQ
The
homepage for the band, SPLITTER
The
DonMcGlashon website
KOG
Transmissions homepage, for Algorhythm.
and a number of XENA listings. The episodes of XENA which
Jan starred in were 317 Forget Me Not as Mnemo Syne, and 309 Warrior...Priestess...Tramp
as Hestia. Transcripts of those episodes can now be found in the ARTICLES
area.
Saturday, 18th December:
Jan Hellriegel and Mark de Clive-Lowe are performing
together again after the sell-out success of their Manifesto perfomances.
They will be accompanied by the best of the best - Joel Haines (Guitar),
Kevin Haines (Double Bass), Miguel (Percussion) and Nick Gaffney (Drums).
Not to mention special guests that will perform during the evening. Don't
miss out this time!
"Spiegeltent" (in the courtyard of the Aotea
centre).
18th December 1999 (from 11 pm - "an after dinner
mint").
Tickets are $25, on sale from Ticketek 09 307 5000.
(Mika, fresh from London, will be performing on the Sunday
- so check it out.)
Jan says:
"Thank you for your wonderful support over the past year. 2000 looks
like it’s going to be a biggy.
Sometimes you should just get wet…….."
Monday, 23rd August:
After a wonderful show at Manifesto, things are pretty
much back to normal. But be sure to check out the show review in the Article
archives.
Friday, 19th March:
Melusine rises in the charts to #17! Also, Jan
plans a gig for the 31st, more soon...
Wednesday, 17th March:
Happy St Patrick's Day everybody! Hope you all drank
plenty of Guiness (or Kilkenney, or whatever's your pint). A little news
- reviews of Melusine keep appearing around the place. Just in is
a nice article/review/interview from Rip It Up magazine here, which includes
a pretty photo of Jan (same shoot from the Real Groove article) here. Also,
the Top 50 for the 7th March 1999 (chart # 1149) lists Jan as number 26!!
This is great considering New Zealand charts are based on single sales,
and not radio play. Of which I might add, Jan has seen considerable amount
of, too. Happy isn't it? :D
Wednesday, 10th December:
Melusine is here at last. The single disc contains
the song, a radio edit of Simon Holloway's remix, an instrumental only
version, Simon Holloway's entire remix, and another Jan Hellriegl song
Love Me (a b-side). The front cover does indeed feature fish, over
a b/w Jan photo. There is also a video by Tracy Tawhio and Kerry Brown
(which, I understand, contains Jan, golden fish, and spunky lads). More
on where to catch that later...
1998
Friday, 11th December:
I have seen an advanced copy of the Melusine single,
and the cover design is great. There's a lovely photo and some fish, but
I have to keep quiet about it. However, I will say the CD runs to about
5 tracks, including a b-side, and three remixes. More soon...
Monday, 19th October:
The long-awaited Melusine single is set to be
released by Universal Records (in about 6 weeks) and includes a remix by
Simon Holloway. Jan says, "We have sorted out a bit of a distribution
deal and it's all systems go." Which is great news, after such a long
between-label drought.
The other big news, is that Jan has announced her new
local tour (hot on the heels of the "Torched" phenomenon). It
is called "THE GIRL'S BLOUSE TOUR" and tour dates can be found
here.
3rd August:
Melusine has been recorded at Beaver Studios,
and will probably be the new single (out sometime by Christmas hopefully).
Also, Jan was nominated for the "Fox Of The Year" award on the
Havoc show. We'll let you know where and when you cast your votes :)
29th June:
It's official - Jan is back in the studio recording a
few songs before she begins work on her full album. She's working on Melusine
and Love Me right now (with Wayne Bell, Anthony Iosa and Simon Holloway).
Jan Hellriegel and Fiona McDonald are also planning on touring "Torched"
around the country so good luck to them!
Here is a corrected updated new album 'speculation' list:
Sentimental Fool
Two By Two (about big Australian insects)
Filled Me Up or Melting of the Ice Queen
The Funeral Song
Misadventure
Melusine (half man, half fish thing)
V8
Venus Is Dead
Love Me
19th June:
No official word on a new album as yet, but Jan appears
to have her demos completed, and her band seems keen to record. I think
any wait here is now one of funding/finding a new record label. But to
keep you excited, here are some new songs that oughta be on the next album:
Sentimental Fool
Two by Two
The Melting of the Ice Queen
Misadventure
The Funeral Song
Melusine
Venus is Dead
10th March:
1) Jan is still busy acting on Xena as Nemosyne, the
priestess of memory.
2) Jan is demoing songs for various soundtracks.
3) "Wanaka was a blast, I really enjoyed the concert
and I have been using DAT machines for back up when I don't have a band."
There ya go.
4) The new material she's working on sounds most interesting.
Listen to this:
"I have just been to Australia to record a very
sad song with an orchestra. It's pretty cool, but the hard dub song that
we did was even better. It moves. It shickers. It's extremely different
for moi but then that is how I like to do things. Different each time."
5) Jan is looking more into acting in films, and is also
trying to organise a show that is "more Marlene Deitrich meets the
late 90's with a lot of glamour and fashion".
1997
20th September:
1) Jan Hellriegel has had "an amicable split with
Warner" (her words). It remains to see who she will end up with next...
2) Jan is demoing for her next album...
3) Jan has a new car :)
20th July:
1) Jan has just been in Melbourne recording music for
a short film entitled My Geraldine. Although not based on her similarly
titled song, the producer is Flick Rhind, bass guitar player from Cassandra's
Ears.
2) Jan Hellriegel to appear as a Hestian Goddess on an
episode of Xena.
17th April:
1) Jan Hellriegel is planning on recording a new album
some time in the near future (possibly towards later 1997). Plans are that
this will be mostly accoustic, which will mark an interesting development
in her musical style if this goes ahead. Hellriegel has completed the demo
tapes, and should begin recording soon.
Probable song titles:
Venus is Dead
The Melting of the Ice Queen
Sentimental Fool
2) Sentimental Fool released as a single to the
radio stations late March. Soon to be available for purchase. Includes
the following tracks:
Sentimental Fool
Sentimental Fool (Acoustic Version)
Sentimental Fool (Leave the Wiggy Bit In)
3) Jan is now incorporating keyboards into her live shows.
