This is for the freaks:
I heard that there exists a red vynil Roxanne single. Can you tell us something about it?
Till next
Joe R. Lopes
Erwin Kempen: That is correct. I have seen only 2 copies so far. This was a test pressing for the colours. As you know there is only a blue and light blue version. This single has no picture sleeve (who cares!) but label and maxtrix # is equal to the blue vinyl.
Deborah Holland
Check out this page for an 1989 interview with 1995 picture.

Stewart is talking about his latest project, the music score for Discovery channel's first movie "The Leopards son". Premier of this movie is in the US next Friday September 27th.
("Can't wait to hear it , Stewart!")
Finally the single came in, details are:
Message in a bottle(4.49)/Canary in a coalmine(2.24)
Memories Collectables A&M 502187387
There is no picture sleeve.
Nice versions of 2 songs Sting did in a Dallas studio during an interview on "MIX 102.9" KDMX radio on September 6 1996. Songs he did were:
I'M SO HAPPY I CAN'T STOP CRYING
YOU STILL TOUCH ME
Worth picking up this tape. Total time about 20 minutes. Thanks Brian.
In the next issue's the bands history before The Police, starting today with Stewart:

Here is a list of bootlegs which have been released in Japan on CD, The Police only:
1. Message in a bottle volume two /BAN-025-b Melbourne 1981 concert There might be volume 1 and 3 aswell. 2. Fall Out /Party Line PLCD-003 Tokyo February 2 1981 Quality is better (new tape!) than all the other vinyls or cd's that have been released before. 3. World tour in concert /WTO-10 assorted concert from The Police and Sting solo 4. The perfect Show /PLANET X PLAN 022 Mix of Hatfield 1979 and New York april 1979 5. Live at Boston Orpheum Theatre November 1979/ INP-013 Boston well known ! 6. Live at the Omni Atlanta Georgia 1983/ INP-012 Atlanta well known ! As if they knew this was going to be released officialy. 7. Back in New York /TP 7911 New York Palladium November 1979
Most of them are very difficult to get, you need a source in Japan. The big wholesalers in Europe and America can't supply these. So once in a while you see a tittle on a fair but expect price around $50.00 for a single CD.
Check October 1996 issue of British magazine Q. It has a 6 page interview with Sting during the time he was in California for his MF tour. Some nice pictures, too bad Q used so many old pictures aswell. Next month there will be a free CD enclosed with the magazine, Sting will be on thisone again.

Some "Freak" news for you. This came from a friend of ours and he did not want us to put this out to the whole mailing list just yet. The DJ 12" Ltd Ed double pack of Police "Voices inside my head" remixes are to be released commercially on CD and 12" on the 30/09/96. Also the next Sting single is "I'm so happy...." release date 11/11/96 the other tracks haven't been decided yet. These are for the UK so not sure about the rest of Europe or US. Do you know anymore ? Can you find out more ? It's a bit of a rip off if A&M are releasing the remixes again, but that's A&M for you!

Hello Erwin and fellow FREAKS!!
Several questions:
1. The song from October 1976 London "Pathway Studios" session for Virgin records: 5. "I Can't Say," is that any relationship to the song that Sting wrote and gave to Ruben Blades for his album "Nothing But The Truth?"
Ruben Blades states in liner notes from NBTT, "had asked Sting to collaborate in a song. About a year went by and suddenly he called and said he had a song for the album, if I liked it; he also said that I
could rewrite it if I wanted to . Decided to leave it as it was. I added the vocal background part to it and Carlos Rios the "I can't say" chorus.
The "I Can't Say" song on NBTT album is 3:46, with the following lyrics...
I CAN'T SAY (Sting) 1. I can't say Words that seldom fail me stay away Tongue tied, I struggle to tell you, but clarity seems to escape me. What's in store when someone feeling so much, say no more? Why should you wring the truth from me? I love you. I just can't say anymore. 2. How many time have I made a fool of myself, a simple fool, with nothing to say? How am I ever to win you for myself? A lonely fool is just what I'll stay. 3. I can't say. Words that seldom fail me stay away Tongue tied, I struggle to tell you, but clarity seems to escape me. Copyright 1988 Reggatta Music

Latest US promo is "I'm so happy I can't stop crying". It is a two track promo in a fold open paper sleeve.
Are you sure about this? My promo is just a simple card sleave (w/the photo from the back of MERCURY FALLING). The disc itself contains only the album version.
Erwin Kempen: Mitch you are probably right, I haven't received my copy yet and was told it was the same paper fold open paper sleeve as some of the other Sting promos.

On another topic, Great Dane Records - one of the first bootleg CD record label here in Italy - is going to close their shop here. They are having legal problems, and will keep the label open only to sell what they have yet in stock via mail order only. I hope to try to see what's true with it this week, and try to write you news for inclusion in the next freak issue (not sure, anyway). With this further closing, remain only two major shops open to bootlegs here in Milan, one of which is slowly reducing th amount
of items availabe. This are the results of the big repression against bootlegs begun one year ago here in Italy. You can add this few lines in the next issue if you do not receive any news from me.
Ciao, Carlo.

Here is another item for the FREAKS.
1996 Album Network "World Premiere of Mercury Falling" on one 10" reel-to-reel tape. The price I saw of this item was $60.00 (U.S.).
Erwin Kempen: That is correct, go to "The Old Hippie" homepage if you want to buy this item.

I don't know if this is worthy of putting in your issue, but if you can stick in something about how I'm looking for old Sting singles on ANY FORMAT, it would be most appreciated.
