Now known as the Neurons, and with the top group in the city having broken up, the group was picking up
steam and getting very well known. Becoming THE group to see.
It was getting to be the end of 1965 and the guys were beginning to get restless. Some wanting to do more
in the group, some less, and some wanting to start doing different music other then the Beatles and Dave Clark
Five etc. Some were starting to write their own music and wanting that played also. Some wanting to play music
other then the top thirty.
Glen and the others came up with the ideas that they would all share vocals. John, Mike, and Frankie would alternate on the guitars. Also they would stretch their musical tastes to other bands such as the Animals, Yardbirds and just about anything that was on the radio at the time. If someone in the band liked a certain song; then everyone would learn to play it. Also they would find B sides of records they liked, and would learn them. This way there would be songs the audience had not heard. Along with all this, Mike, John, and Glen would begin writing original music together and separately.
During this time of change, Frank C started missing rehearshals and school. No one ever knew where he was, but he always showed up for the gigs. One night Frank C didn't show up and left the group without an organ player. One of the guys that hung around with the group, setting up equipment, and other odd and end jobs, asked if he could fill in on the organ for Frank. Mike said "sure why not?" The one night fill-in job turned into a full time job on the Organ for Don S., As for Frank he was never seen again and to this day no one knows what happened to him. When the guys checked up on him to find out what happened, they found the house that Frank and his parents lived in empty.
In December of 1965, The Neurons went to a local recording studio and made two recordings to shop around to radio stations, and record labels. Both were original recordings. "Tell Them Where You Got It" written by Michael B and "Get It Over" written by Glen and John.
In June, after not hearing much from the record labels, Glen and Mike joined the Air Force. In August Don was having personal problems and left the group. In late September Dennis had a death in the family and was not able to play in the band for their last five gigs. Glen, Mike and John asked Gary Mac, who was playing drums in the Rock River Ramblers; if he would play drums for The Neurons for the last five gigs. Because the Ramblers were in a state of flux at that time, he filled in. So the last five nights of concerts, The Neurons were Glen E. on Organ and vocals, John F. on Rythmn and Vocals. Michael B on Lead and Vocals, Frankie G on Bass and Vocals and Gary Mac on Drums. The only picture in existence of this line-up is on the main page.
