Hello. My name is "Spike" Edwards and I have been afforded the opportunity to write the history of the neurons. I have known Glen, Mike, and John most of my life. These guys have told me so much about this group that I know the story by heart. So I want to share it with you.

HISTORY OF THE NEURONS

By SPIKE

It all began in 1962. The Dream of a boy; who wanted to be on the stage and entertain people by singing his heart out. Starting as a soloist for small venues, like Moose Clubs and Church Socials; Glen entered a contest at one of the local festivals. Thats when it all started to click. He knew that he needed a band of his own. At his Junior High School; he discovered kids that he knew could play instuments. He asked if they would like to start a band and all said that it sounded neat. So with Eddie S. on lead guitar, Alan T. on rythmn, Dennis R. on drums and Daryl S on bass ; they began to practice three or four hours a night. The first time they played in front of an actual audience was a disaster. Opening with "Roses are Red" and finishing 10 songs later with a very bad "Good Luck Charm." It was their first and last concert.

In 1963, Glen and his parents moved to Oregon. There he told of his ambitions to have a group to a teacher. The teacher listened to Glen sing a few songs and the teacher said "Don't you like Rock and Roll?" Glen said he did, but just didn't figure he could do that type of music. The teacher took Glen out to a local club and snuck him in the back door. There he watched his teacher sing and play the Harmonica in a Rock band that he was in. The next day, the teacher took him to a local rock concert to watch a relatively unknown rock band calling themselves Paul Revere and the Midnight Riders. Then Glen decided that was what he wanted to do. The Teacher told him not to hold back and belt out the song. The teacher saying "When your in a band everyone should contribute an instrument of some kind." The teacher then gave him some harmonica lessons. With this advice, Glen and the family moved back to Illinois. Once again he decided to try a band.

When he got back; he looked up the old group only to find that Alan had left the area, and Eddie had no desire to play in a band after the humiliation he had substained. Dennis and Daryl had been practicing all through the summer. Daryl had suggested another school mate, Mike G, to play lead; explaining that he had formal training in guitar from one of the local studios. So now they were four. Glen had been listening to songs on the radio that had an organ playing in them so he thought it would be cool to have one in the band. Word got out and a young man Voyd C. asked if he could join. Asked how well he could play the organ he answered that he had been playing for three years and then played "Runaway" for the guys. He was accepted right away.

Now known as the unimaginative named "Glen and his band"; they played 3 songs for a school assembly "Shiela", "Runaround Sue", and finished up with "Runaway." After that they played many school dances. During the summer; they played many local festivals and private parties and began making a name for themselves. Meanwhile, remembering what his teacher had told him; Glen had Voyd teach him some tunes on the Organ.

In 1964, the Beatles were the hottest thing in the country; so Glen and his band began playing mostly Beatle songs. During this time another hot local group was making big sounds and taking a lot of the gigs away from Glen and his band. During the same time, there were agruments among the band members and things were not looking good. Glens Mother divorced his father and remarried, now he had a stepbrother move in with him. Daryl had decided to leave the group because he just couldn't get along with Dennis. Mike G. had gotten in trouble with the police and was being sent to reform school. Voyd was just plain tired of playing in the band. It looked as though the group was through.

When Glen was telling his stepbrother about the problems he was having, his brother said "Well if you need help, I can play bass and drums. I was in a group in South Dakota." After hearing this, he asked Frankie G. to play some bass for him. After listening, he said "consider your self in the band." During this time, Glen started working at a Drive-in Theatre. Here he met John F. He learned that John played lead guitar in a local group called the Galaxies; which by the way was the group taking all the gigs away from Glen and his band. Through a discussion with John, Glen had found out that the bass guitarist was wanting to leave the group to play rythmn guitar. John introduced him to Michael B, who by a strange twist of fate was someone Glen had hung around with when they were younger. They hit it off right away. Glen asked Michael B if he would like to join the group and play guitar. Mike wanting to leave the Galaxies agreed. About a month later, after the Galaxies began to break up; John joined the group. So with Glen on vocal, harmonica and organ, Mike on rythmn, John on lead, Dennis on Drums, and Frankie on Bass; they were ready to start hitting the business of making music.

One day Glen told the guys that they needed to get a regular organ player. He could only play five songs and not all that well. One day in biology class, Glen was talking to Frank C about the band. Glen knew Frank was an excellent organ player and asked if he would like to try out for the band. Frank said sure, but he would never join a band with a stupid name like "Glen and his Band." Glen looked at him perplexed and said "What the hell would you call it?" "How about Neurons?" "What the hell does that mean?" says Glen. "Don't you listen in class?" says Frank. "Its a fuctional unit of the nervous system, and what is rock and roll if it doesn't affect the nervous system?"

Glen took Frank back to the guys; told them about the name. Everyone agreed to the name and the Neurons were born. Oh Yeah and Frank joined the group as well.
