Who is Dogstar?

Dogstar is Bret Domrose, Rob Mailhouse, and Keanu Reeves. Bret is the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Rob plays the drums. Keanu is the bassist.

What type of music does Dogstar play?

According to the band, Dogstar's music can be described as "pop-rock."

What does Dogstar mean?

Its name is Sirius B (for a more detailed definition...), and it is the brightest star in the earth's sky. It is located in the belt of Orion, which can be seen in the winter sky in the northern hemisphere. In the Great Pyramid in Giza, there is a small window in the King's Chamber which looks up upon the Dogstar. Tom Robbins, author of "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" ties the Dogstar with a certain African tribe in Timbuktu, or thereabouts, called the Bozo tribe. Actually, it is Sirius A which the Bozo's pray to, also called the Frogstar. What we see here on earth as one bright star is in reality two stars rotating around each other.

How did Dogstar begin?

Rob, an avid hockey player, was wearing a Washington Capitals jersey at the grocery store when Keanu, known as "The Wall" in high school for his athletic skills, walked up and asked him if he needed a goalie. They became fast friends and began playing music together. During the jam sessions in Keanu's garage, Rob changed from keyboards to drums. Robert asked his friend Gregg to play too. Bret was the last to join (in 1994). Gregg has since left the band to start his own band, Goldenfields. Before Dogstar, Bret played with The Nuns.

Who named the band?

The band had many different names until one day Rob read about the Dogstar (the colloquial name for Sirius, the brightest star in the Northern Hemisphere) in a Henry Miller novel titled "Sexist." The rest is history.

Has Dogstar released anything yet?

Dogstar released their enhanced CD on July 16, 1996. "Quattro Formaggi" is a four song enhanced CD with interactive video and clips from The Dog Days of Summer Tour in 1995. The four songs are:

     Behind Her 
     Return 
     32 Stories

The CD is about 2 hours long and can be played as an enhanced CD in a computer or on a regular CD player.

Dogstar's first full length album, "Our Little Visionary," has been released in some European and Asian countries. It will be available in the US in late 1997.

Who is Dan?

For those of you who have often heard of the famouse "Dan, Dan, the merchandise Man" and wondered who he is...
Dan is the voice behind the Dogstar Hotline. He travels with the band during tours and answers a lot of questions via Email and on-site. He is among the many people "behind the scenes" who help get Dogstar to us. So, if you see Dan, make sure you go up to him and introduce yourself. Dan, if you ever read this, we love you, Man! You're the Man! Thanks for putting up with us.

Has Dogstar performed on television?

Dogstar made its national television debut on Late Nite with David Letterman on May 7, 1996. They performed Our Little Visionary.

How long has Keanu played the bass?

Keanu has said that he first picked up the bass in 1986. He was mostly self-taught and took 1 lesson.

How long has Rob played the drums and are the drums the only instrument he plays?

When Rob and Keanu first started jamming together, Rob played to keyboards but switched to drums later.

The OLV Summer 1997 Tour is over. However, Dogstar did perform at the Jet Jam '97 show on August 17th. Great pictures of that performance can be seen at . There is also a second set for your viewing pleasure.
