  • O-o-ps! New TRIBUTE! (updated July 31th info!)
  • It's very likely that NEW video compilation will be released around the same time as the album.
  • At the end of June Reprise Records has released a promo CD-R, containing "Only When I Lose Myself " and two other tracks, "Headstar" and "Tempt" (click here for details). It is not known if these songs will be included on the Greatest Hits double CD, or if they will just be b-side tracks. Bong Magazine reports that the first single will include a track titled "Surrender", whether this is "Tempt" under a different working title, or a different song completely, is not known.
  • Further info about "Only When I Lose Myself"

  • Depeche Mode has filmed the video to "Only When I Lose Myself" in New York City during July. The video is directed by Brian Griffin.
  • Depeche Mode were in Abbey Road Studios (from 13th April till 1st May) putting the finishing touches on their 2CD Greatest Hits album, due out in October. The completed new tracks are "Only When I Lose Myself", "Headstar" and "Tempt". Tim Simenon produced the new songs.
  • Club 69 (Peter Rauhofer) has released two mix CD compilations on Twisted Records. They are called "Club 69 Future Mix - The Collected Remixes Of Peter Rauhofer" (Vol. 1 & 2). The highlight for DM fans is track one on disc1. Peter received permission to include his Club 69 Future Mix of "It's No Good" on the CD. Keep in mind this is NOT the entire track. Since this is a mix CD, the track, after about 6:30, segues into the next track (in this case, Falco's "Der Kommissar"). Also, the track has been slightly re-edited from the version that appears on the US Promo 12", but at least you can own some of it. For those of you who don't have this DM mix, this is the news you have been waiting for!
  • The label details are as follows:

CLUB 69 FUTURE MIX - the collected remixes of Peter Rauhofer (Volume 1)

    Twisted/MCA TWD-11792 (CD)

  • On Monday April 20, at press conference in Cologne, Germany DM announced their European Tour dates for this year. The European dates set from September 9th to October 17th. No North-American dates're announced at this press conference. Its assumed that the North American dates will be from late October to December, with more to possibly follow in early 1999.
  • Detailed info - here.

  • Sounds like sensation! There are some "seems like truth" rumours that Depeche Mode will go to Russia (including Moscow and St. Petersburg) during their The Singles Tour! I don't know are they really will be here but I pray that they do it anyway!
  • Depeche Mode return to the road this autumn. The band embark on an extensive two-month UK and European tour in September and October, with further dates in the US to follow in November and December. The new tour is entitled "The Singles Tour 86-98". This is the first time Depeche Mode have been seen in concert since Exotic part of their Devotional tour in 1994.
  • The band were in Eastcote Studios (from 9th March till 10th April) recording 2-3 new tracks for the Greatest Hits DCD. Tim Simenon produce all new material.
  • The first single is tentatively scheduled to be released in early August, with the double album to follow in mid October.

The new album has no working title as of yet, but Richard Blade, a DJ on KROQ 106.7 in L.A., and a close personal friend to the band, confirmed on air that the tour will start in Europe in September, and that the new 2CD set is tentatively titled "Caught Up with DM".

There are rumours that the first Depeche Mode song to be recorded for the new Greatest Hits compilation is titled "Higher Ground".

  • MTV (USA) played a "Rockumentary Remix" of Depeche Mode at 9 pm on April 10th. It contains previous footage from MTV's earlier "Rockumentary" from 1993 and some recent MTV News clips about Dave's troubles, as well as the rumored Greatest Hits album/tour at the end of 1998.
  • Mute Records (UK) has re-issued some of the DM back catalog CDs in their "Mid-Price" series. For this release, Mute has designed an entirely new sleeve design of Music For The Masses!
  • It was unreleased track from BOAG done by DJ Shadow. It has a lot of samples. But now Mo Wax Records (UK) has pressed up a limited edition (3000) 12" single of the DJ Shadow mix of "Painkiller" (officially called DJ Shadow vs. Depeche Mode - "Painkiller" - Kill The Pain Mix).
  • Nice surprise! I heard that Erasure performed a fan-club-only concert in Manchester, England (on December 13th, 1997) and one of the songs performed was Just Can't Get Enough (!). Seems like Vince proud of his old hits!
  • The new (second) Recoil single - "Stalker" - was released on March 9th (Mute). It contains the following tracks:
    1. Stalker Punished mix
    2. Missing Piece Night Dissolves
    3. Red River Cargo

Dave spent the week before Christmas with his son Jack in London and then spent Christmas and the New Year in the New York. Fletch stayed at home and spent the holydays with his family.
  • Martin has been very busy lately this year, writing new songs, and the band could be in studio as early as the New Year, working on a handful of new songs for inclusion in a double CD package, featuring all the band's hits since 1986. This package doesn't have a title yet, but it could be released late next summer. The band are also considering touring in the Autumn of 1998.
  • Reprise Records has released a promotional DVD disc (Digital Video Disc) that contains the music video for "Barrel Of A Gun". Disc contains 19 videos of various Reprise artists (including Depeche Mode). The catalog number is PRO-DVD-8825. Disc is packaged in one of those standard DVD holders that looks like a large Digi-Pak.
  • Useless was released on October, 20th in Great Britain. There're 2 CDs + 12", but each CD contains a video (wow!) as multimedia track. (CD1 - "Barrel of a Gun", CD2 - "It's No Good").Remixers of the single are Alan Moulder, CJ Bolland, Barry Adamson, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Cosmic Blues and Carl Craig. See "Useless" (Mute) details here.

Overall, the quality of this CD is superior to the Mute UK pressings (in regards to the enhanced CD part). CD is in Booklet Grabber Pak.

  • The album was released on October, 27th. Album ID is Stumm 159. • A Los Angeles County District judge has dismissed the drug charges that had been pending against Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan. The singer was arrested last July and charged with possession and being under the influence of cocaine and heroin after overdosing in a Hollywood hotel. He then underwent a drug program under the supervision of the L.A. County probation department. Drug offenders with no prior convictions are usually placed in the program for 12 to 36 months, and Gahan completed about nine months. The district attorney on the case pleaded for longer court supervision, but the judge didn't see it that way.
