INFORMATION
Free Society was produced and released around June 1998. Garrett had the idea to start doing a zine that Spring and we got around to doing it around late Spring. The reasoning was that we were punk teenagers and we had opinions about things that were happening that we wanted to share with others, and no way outside of a DIY production to have our voices heard. We collected writings from several friends and pasted them together. The first issue was three pieces of paper folded in half, photocopied at Mail Boxes Etc. on London Rd. We immediately went and sold them at the skateboard park and later, at the first School Relief Show.
Several issues later, the number of contributors dwindled and I became the primary person behind the zine. The zine has always been a variety of music, politics, and personal, since this is what punk rock and life is to me.
The most of one issue I've published is around 100-125, but most issues appear in a free text format on the website.
In 1999, Free Society expanded into organizing shows, as well as distributing political/anarchist punk music.
