  • Images
Below these are expanded. Bear in mind that I suggest including information for completeist purposes. If you lack a piece of info I request, please still submit your contributions. Also, bear in mind that anything submitted may eventually appear or be quoted in a hardcopy. You will be credited for your contribution, but receive no money or free copies of the hardcopy.

WRITINGS

  • Local Band Histories - how it formed, where the name came from, style of music played (influences?), dates of when it started/ended, or when major changes took place, line-up info/changes (dates for when these changes took place), list of releases, lyrics, songs played/covered - preferably from a band member, or someone close to the band for accuracy
  • Zine/Distro/Organization/Promotion group/etc... Histories - most of the same as above applies, however, listing what it's about.
  • Interviews - with bands/zines/people involved/etc... - please include date interviewed, name of interviewer/interviewee, publication it appeared in if applicable,etc...
  • Other - stories about events that occurred, people, places, shows, opinions on issues that affect(ed) the scene (ie: racism/sexism/homophobia, violence at shows, etc...), historical stories about how it was when you were involved, essays about how international events shaped local conditions, etc...
  • Nominations for releases that changed the course of CVHC history - certain international releases had great effect on the style and content of the local scene at different times. Obviously, international phenomena did, but specific albums did as well - a good example, I is the 'Energy' CD by OPERATION IVY. Provide evidence for why you feel it influential on yourself, and/or on the scene.
AUDIO/VISUAL
I will pay postage + cost for copies (with photocopied inserts when available) of:
  • Releases - demo tapes, cd-rs, documentary videos
  • Rehearsal tapes - recordings of band rehearsals
  • Videos - anything related (ie: shows/performances, practices, protests, etc...
Please include any info about the document you know if not already indicated such as date, who created it, etc...

IMAGES
Please send at least in 300 DPI scan, or largest possible digital photo. If this isn't possible, I will accept anything.

  • Flyers - local shows, local bands playing out - Include date of show, venue, city, bands who played (and who didn't if they were on the flyer)and where they're from, who designed flyer - any story you have about the show
  • Photos - local bands/people/events/parties/venues/scenery, local bands playing out, out of town bands playing in Sarnia - please include date, photographer name, location, and if you want to include any story behind a photo
  • Newspaper/Magazine/Zine Clippings/Scans - relevent articles or photos of people - include date appeared, and in what publication

I intend to credit anything provided to whoever contributed it. I can't really offer you any other compensation than that. However, it is gratefully appreciated.

PURPOSE OF THIS SITE

This site serves to compile information about, and document, the punk scene in Sarnia, ON, Canada, AKA Chemical Valley. The information collected here will appear as a hardcopy someday (I hope).

SITE HISTORY

I started this webpage back in 1998 I believe. It's gone through numerous changes. Originally, it started as a location to advertize shows/events occurring in Sarnia, ON, Canada. It grew to having a webpage about my band at the time, Kato, and later, information about a zine I was involved in starting called Free Society.
After my first band broke up, I made a page and hosted it here for another band I was in called Napalmarrea. After this band ended, the site began to take the shape it has grown into. At this time, I decided that I wanted to document the years between 1995 and 2000, not only on this website, but in a hardcopy zine format. I was extremely busy, and I never seemed to have time to collect information. The site stagnated, and I posted that the site would no longer cover current information.
Now it's 2004 and I still haven't got around to releasing that zine. I became suddenly inspired to work on it, and decided to end the non-update status of the site.
Now I am compiling any information I can about the Sarnia punk scene.

ABOUT ME

My name is Stu. I was born in 1980 in Sarnia, ON. 1988 I moved to Bright's Grove where I quickly became interested in skateboarding. By 1992 or so I was into a variety of music which included generous helpings of early punk, hardcore, thrash and metal, however, it wasn't until 1995 that I attended my first punk show (T.I.M. @ Campbell St. Station - Oct 16, 1995).
Since this time, punk rock has been a central part of my life and I've been in numerous bands, created a zine, put on shows, attended shows, participated in protest actions, etc...
In 2001 I started attending university in Peterborough, ON, which meant I spent 8 months out of each year from 2001 - 2004 in Peterborough. I moved back to Sarnia at the end of June 2004, having completed a Bachelor's of Arts in Sociology with an English Minor, and stuck around for another year, kicking it Sarnia style living around the corner from the skateboard park.
At the end of August 2005, I moved again, and currently, I'm living in Peterborough, ON, working at a call centre, and rocking in a hardcore punk band called CRAZY BOMBER. I'm also still involved in the band SARNIA, although at a distance as all our members live in different cities right now, not including Sarnia, ON.
