        The second single, an old
music-hall ballad at that, and with backing to suit. By all accounts, it went down well onstage
although the various Pirate line-ups that had to supply the backing had
their reservations. A version was duly recorded with the Pirates, but it
remains lost within EMI's vaults. Perhaps lack of enthusiasm or
unsuitable coupling of group and song on record led to it's archiving. After their
        fantastic debut, the
recording of this song shows the way most record companies at the time
tried to cash-in on songs in their back catalogues that they still owned
the rights to.  Along with "Yes
Sir, That's My Baby" this song serves to illustrate how HMV were
rather unsure how to handle Johnny Kidd at the onset of his career.
TRIVIA: Arranger Ivor Raymonde had appeared in a few editions of
        the legendary
"Hancock's Half Hour" on BBC television. |
