Due to my busy schedule, I will not

2001)  TAMIA ON MUCHMUSIC THIS SATURDAY |
TAMIA TO PRESENT AT THE SOUL TRAIN AWARDS
Exciting news for Canadian Tamia fans.  Tamia is scheduled to be
        interviewed this Saturday on MuchMusic.
She will be back in Toronto to promote her album as well as attend the
Juno Awards (March 4) in which she is nominated for one award.  On
Saturday afternoon (5:15pm), Tamia will be at MuchMusic's headquarters
on Queen Street in Toronto to be interviewed by VJ Namugenyi.  Fans
from Toronto might want to go down to the MuchMusic building an hour
before the interview.  They sometimes let fans sit in on interviews
and performances.  This was the case back in April 1998 when Tamia
        performed on Da Mix.

Tamia will also be presenting an award at
        the Soul Train
Awards.  The awards will be taped tonight (February 28) and air
in syndication this coming weekend.  Check your local listings for
        station and air times.

        (February 26,
        2001)  106 & PARK | AS THE WORLD
        TURNS | BILLBOARD #1 |
        TAMIA YAHOO CHAT RECAP
Tonnes of new Tamia news in the past week.  First of all, Tamia
        will appear on BET's
106 & Park show tonight at 6pm.  The show will re-air
tomorrow morning at 11:30am.  As reported before, Tamia is also
scheduled to perform on the soap opera As The World Turns.
She revealed in an online chat last week that she taped the show on
February 22, and the episode will air on March 26.  She will
perform Stranger In My House and Love Me In A Special Way.

Tamia finally has a #1 song all to
herself!  Stranger In My House has made it to #1
on the Dance Music/Club Play charts (March 3 issue) after 6 weeks.

        Tamia participated in a Yahoo.com
chat on February 22.  Unfortunately, I was out of town and didn't
have access to a computer, but Matt was lucky enough to
take part in the chat and even had a few questions answered.  Here
        is his recap:

One of Matt's questions asked and
          answered:
"Are you aware of the grass roots effort (in conjunction with Iced Media) by fans, like myself, to promote your current album "A Nu Day"? What do you think of complete strangers giving their time to ensure your success?"

          Her response....
"That is something that has always amazed me. They spend such great effort to ensure that people know about me. When I go onto the fanclub websites, I call people in to look what they (the fans) have done for me. I may never get a chance to know them or thank them. But, I want to officially thank them now."

-She continued on to talk about other things...like the fact that she tapes "As the World Turns" tomorrow and it will air March 26th.
-She will be on 106 and Park on Monday (02/26). She taped the show today (02/22).
          -She hates snakes and lizards.
-She has a 2.9oz dog, that Grant doesn't claim.
          -She is in NYC often.
-She attended the Grammys and had a party afterwards (with her hair stylist, assistant, stylist, and publicist)....they ate junk food (girl scout cookies) amongst other things.
-She was complimented over the phone when the Winans heard her rehearse "Tomorrow" for the BET Celebration of Gospel. Two of the Winans were there and they called Marvin, who wrote the song. He said he's never heard anyone sing it like that (and he wrote it and they recorded it!!)
-There are alot of great people out there that she would like to duet with...Joe, Chante Moore, R. Kelly.
-Her advice for singing professionally was to "get a good lawyer". (You could tell she was speaking from personal experience). She said get someone who you would "trust your life with". She said the music business is alot more BUSINESS than what you think.
-Her BET Gospel performances was one of her best ever...from a fan reaction standpoint. She was really surprised at how they took to her.
-Her mother is her biggest influence because she is around her all the time.
-The "Stranger" single will be released at the end of this month on CD. (don't know how true that is..that means it would come out on the 27th).
-Her most outrageous outfit was the SIMH video outfit, which wasn't her choice. She had opted for some type of t-shirt, but it didn't look right on camera.
-She was bussed to a predominantly White school in Windsor, but enjoyed it. She wouldn't trade it going there.
-She only sang "Stranger" 4 times in the studio before she had it complete.

Tonnes of new Tamia news today:

        The official tamiaonline.com
website has gone through a major face-lift.  As you enter the site,
you are welcomed by a short Flash intro animation.  The rest of the
site contains basically the same info, but things are rearranged (ie:
the menu is at the left hand side; colors are different; minor things
like that).  They also added new information such as tour dates and
magazine features.  Tamia will be performing at BB King's Blues
Club in Lousville, Kentucky on February 3 and (as previously reported)
in New York City on February 12 (venue hasn't been decided yet).
She will also be performing on "It's Showtime At The Apollo"
sometime in May.  In magazine news, Tamia and Grant are on the
cover of the new Upscale magazine.  She will also be
featured in the April 2001 issue of Savoy.

        According to CDnow.com,
Stranger In My House is going to be released in 12"
vinyl format on February 13.  The double vinyl single will most
likely include several hiphop and dance remixes of the song.  You
can hear the So So Def Radio Mix (hip-hop remix) and Thunderpuss Radio
        Mix (dance remix) at tamiaonline.com
under "media".  The So So Def Radio Mix has already been

        Apparently, Tamia's Stranger In My
House single has been moving up the Billboard
singles charts the past few weeks.  This week (January 20, 2001),
the single moves up to # 20 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles
& Tracks chart.  The single also premiered on the Hot
100 Singles chart a few weeks ago.  Thanks to Stranger In My
House, A Nu Day has been given a boost on the album
charts.  The album been jumping in an out of the top 100 on the Billboard
200 charts.  This week it jumps up to # 82 from #
        111.  I don't have all the details of Tamia's positions on the
charts because I haven't had access to current copies of Billboard in
the past few weeks (the above mentioned chart positions were obtained
        from Billboard.com).

        According to tamiaonline.com,
Tamia is scheduled to perform in New York City on February 12, but the
location has not been confirmed yet.

Tamia made it on some of the charts as part of her contributions to the

Spend My Life With You - Eric Benet featuring Tamia

I know I haven't been updating the site
frequently in the past few weeks.  The thing is, there hasn't been
any new Tamia news in awhile!  In her online chat in December, she
had mentioned a possible tour in the new year, so hopefully in the next
few weeks I'll have something to post on the site.  And hopefully Stranger
In My House will continue to rise up the Billboard charts.

        (January 2,
2001)  HAPPY NEW YEAR! | TAMIA CHAT RECAP
        Yahoo & Getmusic.com
held an audio online chat on December 21.  I was fortunate enough
to participate in the chat and Tamia actually answered one of my
questions (I asked her what she thought about the online fan websites
dedicated to her, and her online fans).  Click
here to listen to chat at getmusic.com.
(my question is answered at roughly the 24:00 mark)

        The chat was pretty interesting.
For 58:53 minutes, Tamia answered fan questions submitted through email
and through the chatroom.  She discussed how Canadian artists have
        to "stick together"; her favorite artists (fav. rapper: Jay Z;
fav. singers: Yolanda Adams, Whitney Houston, Joe, and others); artists
she would like to work with (she would like to work with R. Kelly, who
had remixed You Put A Move On My Heart, but that version was
never released); movies that made her cry (watching The Green Mile
        on DVD on the plane); disputing online rumors that she is pregnant;
admiting that she is a "product junkie"; discussing her new
house in Orlando (one of her neighbours is Backstreet Boy AJ).
Listen to the chat for other surprises, like a reference to Ren &
Stimpy; discussing one of her favorite tv shows The Sopranos.

Tamia performed second, right after Musiq.  Her set started at
11:27pm (PST) and lasted about 14 minutes.  It started off with a
brief intro clip of her singing Spend My Life With You, followed
by her backup singers singing "Tamia" (what I call the
"Tamia jingle", LOL).  The first song she performed was Can't
Go For That.  Because the webcast was audio-only, I could not
see what was going on, but I assume she was doing the dance thing as
well.  The quality of the broadcast was really clear, and you could
barely hear the audience background noise.  Next she performed Stranger
In My House, which she did so well that it gave me chills when she
hit the high notes.  Last, she sang Spend My Life With You
(both her and Eric Benet's parts), which was followed by the last half
of You Put A Move On My Heart.  Overall, I thought the
performance was quite short, but I guess they have to fit all those
artists in that one concert.  However, she put on an excellent
        performance, as she usually does.

CGFT SINGLE | BILLBOARD CHART | REMIX VIDEO | BULLETIN BOARD ON
        TAMIAONLINE.COM
I have been on vacation in California for the past 2 weeks, and I
finally have a chance to update the site.

The biggest news the past 2 weeks is the
release of the Can't Go For That single on August
        29.  Tamia fans were in a treat when they picked up the 2 track CD
single, because it contains multimedia content!  In addition to the
two tracks Can't Go For That (Album Version) and the ballad Tell
Me Who (Album Version), the disc also includes the full video for Can't
Go For That (playable on a computer), promotional images,
screensaver, video interview with Tamia, and behind the scenes footage
from the video shoot for the remix video feat. Snoop Dogg.  It has
been reported that this CD single is on sale across the U.S. at Camelot
Music and Sam Goody for $1.99 (but not all locations).  The CD Maxi
single contains 6 tracks: Can't Go For That (Album Version),
three dance remixes by Jonathan Peters, and Tell Me Who (Album
Version).  Not sure what the 12" Vinyl and Cassette single
        tracklistings are.

        Can't Go For That premiered
        on the Billboard
charts the past few weeks.  It was the Hot Shot Debut
on the Top 100 R&B Singles/Tracks chart at #69 on
August 26, and remained unchanged the following week.  It has yet
to break the Hot 100 Singles charts.  Expect the single to shoot up
the charts next week with the commercial release of the single.

The remix video for Can't Go For
That (feat. 213) was seen on The
Box video channel last week.  It is basically the same as the
regular version, with Tamia wearing a different outfit and has her hair
up, as well as an appearance by Snoop Dogg.
(thanks to Briana for the info)

        Tamia's official website tamiaonline.com
has updated the site with a bulletin board where Tamia fans can talk
about their favorite singer.  As well, they posted news saying that
Tamia performed 2 weeks ago at the WEA Convention in Atlanta and gave a
performance that ended with a standing ovation.  Tamia is also set
to appear in the November 2000 issue of Vibe
        magazine.

Finally, Tamia's new album A Nu Day
is now available for pre-order on CDNOW.com.
The album is set for release on October 10, and has been mentioned in
Fall Music Preview issues of USA Today and Entertainment Weekly.

out in many different formats.  Listed are:

          12" vinyl (4 tracks)
          Cassette Single
          CD Single
          CD Maxi Single (5 tracks)

The CD & Cassette formats are listed
with a B-side Tell Me Who (track #11 from the album).  The
CD Maxi Single & 12" Vinyl are likely to include dance remixes
for Can't Go For That, such as the Jonathan Peters Club mixes
that have appeared on promo copies of the single, and have appeared on Napster
        in the past few weeks.

Thanks to Jdynse who found an article about Tamia on CDNow.com.
The article states that Tamia's as-yet-untitled album is scheduled to be
released on October 10.  ON this album, she has worked with
Missy Elliott on 5 tracks, as well as with producers Shep Crawford,
Dallas Austin, Bink!, and Jazz Nixon.  "This album is not
as ballad-driven as my last album. It's more aggressive in terms of the
formats of the songs," she says. "They're not all love songs
-- there's certainly no male-bashing, I'm not at that state in my life,
but you have to kiss a couple frogs before you get your prince."
The single for her first single, Can't Go For That, will
be released to radio stations on July 31.

        (July 18, 2000) "CAN'T
        GO FOR THAT" SONG DESCRIPTION

Matt has just received a copy of the 12" promo for Can't Go
For That and this is what he had to say about it:

"The music that you hear on the Elektra Tamia website is that song. The song is really
nice... talks about how she won't put up with her man doing her wrong (hitting her, disrespecting her, etc.). Her voice is very clear on the track and sounds REALLY nice and Missy adds a nice
complement... but not much of that hee-hee stuff (I don't like that). I can already tell that the song will be a hit. I wish I could give you a better description, but I guess you'll just have to hear it yourself. You'll be surprised to hear Tamia ask in the song "Why you illin'?" and refer to herself as none other than a "nubian
queen"... more than once. I am so proud of her. This different direction is something that I am already liking."

(thanks to Matt for the info)

        Also, Elektra
has posted links to Real Audio/Video samples of the Can't Go For
That song sample & video full video, but the link does not
work.  I expect these to be corrected sometime this week.
They can be found by clicking on the "Elektravision" selection
at the top menu bar and choosing "Tamia".

OFFICIAL WEBSITE UPDATED | SINGLE RELEASE
DATE | VIDEO AIRING ON BET
Tonnes of new Tamia news!  The music video for I Can't Go For
        That premiered on BET's
Jam Zone this past Thursday, and was directed by Chris Hafner
(who has previously directed 2Pac's "Changes" and Groove
Armada's "I See You Baby" music videos).
Here is what Gina had to say about it:
"The video takes place in this very trendy apartment.
She is dancing, singing and from what I got the song is about an abusive man.
At the end of the video she goes into the song Stranger In My House which is her slow song
and this guy walks in the apartment and he dissapears then it says To Be
        Continued".
(thanks to Gina & Shereen for the info)
              Also, the Official
Tamia Online website has been updated with a cool Flash intro with
an image of Tamia's bare back (first promo image from Elektra!)
The single for I Can't Go For That has been set to go on
        sale on August 29.

TAMIA ALBUM UPDATE | NEW SINGLE RELEASED |
        GRANT HILL NEWS
        Tamia's Official
website has been updated with info on her new album, including
titles of some of the tracks from the album.  Go to the new
        album section for more info.

        The Official
Grant Hill website also has some news on Tamia in the Hilltop
news section.  Tamia's first single from her upcoming album I
Can't Go For That (which samples from the Hall & Oates song and
produced by Missy Elliott) was released on 12" promo format this
past week to clubs, and will be released to radio stations in the next
few weeks.  A video has also been shot and a remix with Snoop Dogg,
Warren G., and Nate Dog has been recorded -- both to be released by the
        end of the month.
        The Grant
Hill website Hilltop section also has a cute picture of
wedding favors given to guests at their wedding last summer.  Clips
of their wedding were also shown on Oprah on May 23, in an episode about
fantasy weddings.  The wedding favors were tiny boxes of Kellogg's
Frosted Flakes, with a 3 year old Tamia & Grant Hill in the arms of
Tony the Tiger.  In an online chat conducted in June, Grant
answered several questions including ones about him and Tamia.  Visit
the site to hear Grant answer these questions:
        - Also, I am a BIG Tamia fan. What's the
charactristic you like most about her?
        - Hello Grant, what kind of things do you and Tamia have in
common?  What things do you guys like to do in your spare time for
        fun?
        - I was wondering if you and Tamia are going to have any kids? Do you
ever come to Long Island on your off season?
There has been rumor that Grant Hill
might be traded to the Orlando Magic, which means Tamia & Grant
        might leave Detroit.
(thanks to Desiree, Shannon, Christal, and all the others who have
emailed me regarding the above news items)

        (June 24, 2000)
        According to Elektra.com, Tamia
will be featured in an upcoming issue of Essence magazine.

        (May 30, 2000)
This week's mailing of the Elektra.com
e-mail mailing list included new information on Tamia's new release.
The biggest news: the album has been delayed until October 2000.
Tamia will be working with producers Missy Elliot and Shep Crawford,
among others.  Also, a new webdomain has been created for Tamia's
        new release: tamiaonline.com.
The page looks the same as her previous page on Elektra.com, with the
new October 2000 release date edited.  Here is the excerpt from the
        e-mail:

TAMIA HOOKS UP WITH MISSY FOR NEW ALBUM
Look for the new Tamia record coming in October.  The new disk
marks the Elektra debut for Grammy nominee, with cuts produced by
Missy Elliott and Shep Crawford, among others.  Tamia says one of
the hardest things about making record was eliminating songs.
"When you're working with all these great people, you like
everything they play you. When Shep was going over material he had, I
was like 'I want that one, I want that one, I want that one
too.'"  Tamia also wrote with Shep on the album.  Cited
by Newsweek magazine as one of the ten new faces to watch, Tamia told
Elektra news staff working with Missy was a dream come true.
"She's so relaxed, which is interesting because she practically
lives in the studio.  But she made me feel at home.  She
lets you work at your pace, letting the natural vibe come out."
Catch up with Tamia at http://www.tamiaonline.com

        (May 22, 2000)
Elektra has not updated Tamia's official webpage in about 2 1/2
months.  It seems that the album may be delayed 'til Fall
2000.  However, 2 new Tamia tracks have surfaced online!
I am not sure if these tracks are new tracks from the upcoming album or
ones that didn't make it on, but the bottom line is that they're new.
        Pepsi
has a promotion called "Choose Your Music" where you
can collect points from Pepsi & Mountain Dew products in exchange
for customized CD's.  You can pick from more than 150 songs, and
two NEW Tamia songs are on the list!  Added to that, 30 second
Streaming Windows Media clips for Stranger In My House and
Dear John can be heard at the Pepsi
website.  So go to the website for rules and instructions on
how you can get these tracks on CD.  The offer lasts until August
31, 2000 and (to my knowledge) only open to U.S. residents.
To reach the contest page, go to Pepsi.com, and click on "Choose Your Music".  There you
can find instructions on how to collect points to trade in for your CD,
and rules and regulations.  To listen to the Tamia clips, click on
"Mix Your Own CD" and search under "Music Genres:
        R&B".
        (May 9, 2000)
        ***HAPPY 24TH BIRTHDAY, TAMIA!***
In the latest issue of Billboard magazine, in the R&B column, they listed albums coming out in the summer, but Tamia's was not listed. However, her name popped up in the list of expected released for FALL. Hopefully tha magazine is mistaken or something, and the album drops in June as expected. I really hope this is not like the other album, when it was delayed for over a year before it finally came out.

        (May 3, 2000)
It was announced in the Elektra.com news section yesterday that Tamia and Eric Benet would be appearing on the
May 17 series finale episode of FOX TV show
Beverly Hills, 90210, performing their hit song Spend My Life With
        You.
