Company's Coming

Company's coming and mother's humming
that sweet little song, you know
the one that you sing, you do--to boost you.
Band-aids and bedtime stories remind me
my mother was so kind--I took for granted--
didn't mean to...I was such a fool.

Tearing me up 'cause I can't remember
when I said, "Mother, Mother I love you."
Now it's too late...Oh what I put you through.

All of the little things, they stick in my mind.
Like makin' the oatmeal and waving good-bye,
Now I'm so sad...Man, I got it bad.
So many words of wisdom, my mother she told
me, son, just keep trying to cross that
mountain--cross that mountain.

Chorus:
Mother can I go outside and play today?
Mother said, "Boy, company's coming
today." Mother made me wear those funny
clothes and things. I used to get so mad.
I remember the love my mother gave.
Mother, can I go outside and play today?
Mother said, "Boy company's coming today."

One in a million chance I'll ever recover.
So much I miss her--So much I love her.

Chorus

She read me poetry and I recall one called, "Baby."
Talked about rivers & tigers and someplace called
nowhere. Now when I wish I could see her to talk
I go crazy. If you only knew how darling mine was
my mother. My mother. My mother.
