The unofficial anti-metallica site
Anyone else notice how McGwire and hetfield look alike?

This section of Area502 is designed to bash metallica and comprehend their downfall. I will admit that I used to be a very avid listener of metallica and even praised them. I started listening to them before I even discovered MegadetH. Once I learned the history of metallica, I listened to MegadetH... that's when my opinion of 'tallica changed. They didn't seem as "in depth", concerned, in touch with society, and definitely not as talented as MegadetH. But I still liked them as a good, even though not the best, thrash band around. Even with the release of the black album and its immense popularity I remained loyal. Ok.. they had a few slow songs.. but they were "mellowing", I thought to myself. But then 4 years passed between the relase of the black album and load. I was so ready for load because I heard it was going to be their heaviest album yet... damn, was I disappointed!! I bought it, listened to it, and it pretty much sucked. Kirk hammett did nothing but recycle old solos over and over again. The ooOOAAhs of hetfield became worse.. and lars totally lost his ability. When I learned that they all cut their hair and were wearing cowboy boots I was mad as hell.. I was in denial.. but the final straw was "mama said". That song blew so much ass! After that point all I could do was laugh at them.. and that's what I've been doing ever since.. laughing at a band that's gone to hell.

11/28/98 -Well, Garage Inc. is out. Did I go get it? Yes, I admit it.. I did. Ok, go ahead and throw your stones and knives. Ouch.. ok, now that's over with (whew!). I got it because I never had the opportunity to get Garage Days the first time (or the second). For those of you who don't know, metallica decided to release a double cd with the covers from the Garage Days EP (including "Blitzkreig" and "Am I Evil?") Also on this disc are other covers used as b-sides and other lost tracks such as "Stone Cold Crazy" and "The Prince". On the other disc are 11 new covers that aren't really that bad. Some worth mentioning are "Free Speech for the Dumb" by Discharge, "Sabbra Caddabra" by Sabbath, "Die, Die my Darling" by the Misfits, "Astronomy" by Blue Oyster Cult (they don't do this song justice) and "The More I See" by Discharge. They even covered a damn Skynyrd song on this cd. You can tell this was James' idea. In all, Garage Inc. isn't that bad. This is due to the fact that all the songs are covers.. if metallica had actually written any of these songs, they would blow big time. If anyone out there like me followed metallica reverently before their demise, I reccommend this release. It's a good chance to hear old songs without buying millions of stupid singles or listening to "Live Shit". Garage Inc. is good, but it still doesn't reinstill my faith in this band. They still suck.

12/12/99 -Ok, here's my review of metallica: S&M. This idea is one that is long overdue. The premise of putting a metal band together with a symphony as accompaniment is one with great potential. This idea may not appeal to everyone, but I am a music lover, and even thought metallica might suck, this idea kicks ass. Despite their decline over the past several years, I respect and admire this idea. It shows that they have a respect for other genres of music. I was pleased that there were not that many ooOOOAAHs on this live set. That is one recently developing characteristic of hetfield's voice that has led to their demise. The best song on here has to be "Call of Ktulu". It was co-written by Mustaine, and even if one couldn't see the credits, one would still know that he had something to do with the song, just by the style. I know that I can almost hear him playing a similar riff in many MegadetH songs. The SF orchestra just makes this song even better. Unfortunately, metallica's sound tends to weaken in some parts of this song, and doesn't do it justice. Most of the other songs aren't that good, partly because they don't sound like they were thoroughly rehearsed with the orchestra, and also because they weren't designed to be played with one. Still, it's nice to hear this type of musical combination. "The Memory Remains", which sucks on re-load, doesn't sound that bad on S&M. Most of the songs that have soft acoustic parts sound really good on this album with an orchestral accompaniment. "Devils Dance", the best metallica song since the black album, sounds great too. This effort is a great step in metal music. This could either lead to a new direction for metallica or one for all metal bands. One might possibly see the future of metal in this live set. It is also surprising that MegadetH did not have this idea first. There are two new songs on here, "No Leaf Clover" and "-Human". These songs sound great, due mostly to the absence of excessive ooOOOAAHHing. I applaud metallica for this creative work, and I enjoy it for the most part too. I reccommend this release for ANY music lover. Still, until they put out an album with all new works, free of gay songs and ooOOOOAAAHHs,... I'm sorry folks, but they still suck. My rating: 6.5

As Dave Mustaine posted on the message boards on the Megadeth website at www.megadeth.com"And to those of you that post here that hate us, don't let the door hit ya' on the ass. To very VERY large degree, Megadeth AND Metallica both are responsible for almost all of the great new metal bands out today. Give us a break! Show us both some respect. And if ya' don't like either one, or both for that matter than you are excused"

like you i used to listen to metallica way back when they had Dave as guitarist. when they kicked him out they picked up a better guitarist which was kirk hammet. the band was doing great until cliff burton was tragically killed in the bus roll-over. ever since he died the band has gone to shit so i listen to megadeth now and they are much better intrumental wise than metallica because off Marty's lightning fast solos and Dave's king-v guitar madness makes Megadeth the best metal band left. then comes pantera but they are a little diff. keep the metallica bashing goin' you have a lot of people who believe the same thing that metallica just became a bunch of geesers acting like rockers.

Dude, too true. What the hell happened to Hetfield's voice? He sounds like he's trying to yodel and gargle at the same time. Kirk's solos are all the same now, Lars just sucks ass and always has, and Jason...well...he's Jason. Back in 98 my friend bought me Rust In Peace for Christmas (LAUNCH THE POLARIS AT ALTERNICA!!!) and from then on I've been hooked. My second album was Countdown To Extinction followed by Peace Sells, Hidden Treasures and Risk. Dave's voice is still kick ass, Marty still plays heavy like a motherfucker, David's bass riffs are still loud as hell and Jimmy DeGrasso is a great replacement for Nick (We'll miss ya dude!). ALL HAIL MUSTAINE!!!

i am sick of all this metallica bashing. they are just doing what they want to do and i don't think that it sounds as bad as you make it out to be. sure they aren't doing what they used to do, playing at 100 mph but they are still putting out some great music. they are just doing what they want to do and i think that takes some balls. they aren't selling out cuz if they were they would do what we want and play fast. if a new band came out and made load and reload instead of metallica then they would be considered an awesome band but because we have such high expectations for them everyone thinks that they "souled out". i think you people need to stop being so narrow minded that you only like the fast stuff and don't respect the slow stuff. most the new stuff is harder to play than some of the old stuff. metallica isn't the only band that is going soft megadeth has gotten a whole lot slower on cryptic writings and risk. don't get me wrong they are both awesome cd's but they aren't like they used to be but they are doing what they want to do and they are still rocking and this is all that matters is that they haven't just given up. well metallica went back into the studios in october so we'll see what they come out with next.
